5.0 out of 5 stars "So weet", So needed...
I have to say that after waiting anxiously for the release of this albulm, I am more than gratified. The wait was well worth it. Maysa has a superb voice. Seeing her "LIVE" is even better. This girl has not gotten the recognition she deserves. If you are into smotth jazz and silky voices, this one is the one for you. After a long day at work, you can put this CD in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Maysa's Best Work
I love Maysa w/ Incognito, and love her first solo album as well. This one left me a bit flat. These were all cover tunes, and my opinion is that if you are going to cover a song, you've got to do it different AND better. They were different, all right. Not much interesting happening, even Maysa's great voice seemed like she was holding back.

This girl has not gotten the recognition she deserves. If you are into smotth jazz and silky voices, this one is the one for you. After a long day at work, you can put this CD in and let her take you to a serene place. Well worth the buy. BTW check out some of her previous releases as well. My fav is "All my life" from her and off course her contribution to the Brittish Jazz band Incognito.
This is a must in your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maysa, Maysa, Maysa! Thank You For Giving Us Some 'Sweet Classic Soul', May 7, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Classic Soul (Audio CD)
I must disclose upfront that I as well as my wife are both HUGE Maysa fans...so this review is probably going to be a little bias (hey, at least I admit it...unlike some reviewers!) Nevertheless, Maysa has decided to expand into doing other types of albums. Such is the case with Sweet Classic Soul, a collection of carefully crafted remakes of some of the best songs of the last half century. A lot of artists don't even attempt to try their hands at doing covers, while other artists who have no business even thinking about doing one fail miserably. Being the strong vocalist that she is, Maysa pulls off these songs without breaking a sweat.

Her cover of "Wishing On A Star" is just as strong as Rose Royce's original version. "Don't Say Goodnight" is a good spin on an old classic. Such is the case for her rendition of Stevie Wonder's "All I Do." The fact that Maysa would even cover "Love Won't Let Me Wait" by Major Harris is truly wonderful. "Come Go With Me" is not as strong as Teddy Pendergrass' original, but it still passes as a decent shot at doing such an timeless classic. The same can be said for the Stylistics' "Betcha By Golly Wow," a cover that was done better by Prince some years ago. She does belt out a pretty good version of "Playing Your Game, Baby" by Barry White. She closes out the album with her take on "Love Comes Easy," "Any Love" (not Luther's version), and "The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face)."

Even though she stuck to some older material, Maysa does an exceptional job on most of the song choices that she did make. Hopefully with the release of Sweet Classic Soul, Maysa will do other specialized collections like a live album or even a duets disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Vocal Talent...Great CD...you need to buy this CD, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Classic Soul (Audio CD)
I have been a big Maysa fan since the first day I heard her singing with Incognito years ago, and this CD just really brings out her pure vocal skills and talent. Maysa has the kind of voice that just sends chills down your spine as soon as she starts singing...it just gets right to your inner soul. All of these songs are great songs, and Maysa adds her own little style and touch to make each song her own, eventhough many of them have been remade by many other singers in the past. If you are a fan of great R&B/Soul Music and want to hear an amazing vocal talent, this CD is a great addition to any collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, unique and soulful voice :->, March 5, 2006

To be honest, I hadn't heard of Maysa before, but I know most of the songs on here and I love R n'b and thought I'd take a chance on this. I'm glad I did, because it's so well done and these remakes are great. She has a unique voice and her interpretation of these songs is really beautiful and has a strong jazz feel. I love this cd. It's nice to chill to and I highly recommend it. (I especially love Wishing On A Star - she does that well).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Classic, February 28, 2006

This review is from: Sweet Classic Soul (Audio CD)
If you are a lover of 70's R&B and soul, then Sweet Classic Soul is a must for your collection. Maysa has done a wonderful job in recreating and re-energizing these timeless classic songs. Sweet Classic Soul pays tribute to the artists who inspired Maysa to become who she is today and she has honored them in a big way. Maysa is truly one of the greatest voices of this generation and this CD certainly bears that out. Come Go With Me will knock your socks off. The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face) will bring a tear to your eye. This CD is wonderful from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Classic Soul (Audio CD)
Ok, first of all I just saw this women in concert and she rocked it! Maysa, is a rare singer after being with a group like Incognito she has went on to make a successful career as a solo singer. Not to many other artists can do that, and she has done that.

I think my favorite song on here is "Love Won't Let Me Wait."

This cd is nice. I love Maysa; have all her cd's. The songs on this cd are oldies but goodies (Classics), but her voice make these songs shine. I love anything she sings; she has a way of bringing the song out!!!

Maysa, an amazing musician, sings with great skill, emotion, grace, and passion. She puts her unique, original sound & style to some favorite r&b classics. She brings a new vitality to these wonderful songs. Every song has its own personality and warmth. This cd will take you back and motivate you to move forward. Each song sounds brand new. You will truely enjoy every song and your favorite song will change from mood to mood and from day to day. Enjoying all of her cds, but this one is my favorite.

I'm so glad that Maysa put out a cd with all remakes. I've enjoyed her remakes in the past and the ones that she covered with Incognito. Her voice is so soulful, it was such a nice change to hear her cover some of music classic hits. This cd is nice for all occasions. I''m loving it!!
