Book Description

February 1, 2004

Wayside, Oregon, population 17,900, seems like a Norman Rockwell painting come to life, with sixteen churches and a picturesque Main Street studded with cherry trees and flower borders. For caterer Amber Montgomery, Wayside is the perfect place to heal from her past as an abused wife and establish a new identity as the beloved local "cookie lady." For Police Chief Paul Evans, Wayside is the ideal town in which to raise his orphaned niece and nephew, far from the violence and grit of his former life as a D.C. cop.

But when a misunderstanding leads to Chief Evans hauling the feisty Amber to jail, this sleepy town begins to rock. And when these instant adversaries find themselves paired as chaperons on a Community Christian Church youth camping trip, both are forced to confront fears they'd rather ignore to save a life . . . and find the courage and faith to love.

From Booklist

Mason's Sweet Devotion is a light romance featuring Amber Montgomery, an escapee from a bad marriage who has begun a catering business, and a new life, in little Wayside, Oregon. She runs afoul of the local police chief, Paul Evans, who arrests her thinking she's part of the more or less wholesome mayhem among revelers at a community center. Later, the two are thrown together as youth chaperones, and it turns out Paul is an escapee from the big city, too, trying to raise two orphans in his charge. John Mort

2.0 out of 5 stars Really boring book, June 3, 2010

I had to force myself to finish this book, which is really unusual for me. I didn't realize from the product description how religiously-oriented the story was, and aside from that, found the characters kind of flat and the premise of the story to be kind of hokey. Won't read this author again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Will The Madness Ever End?, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweet Devotion (Steeple Hill Women's Fiction #5) (Paperback)
There are far too many books written about spousal abuse. Our community needs to take a look at this serious subject and come up with an answer. This book depicts abuse and a case of unlawful imprisonment, which is a good story to tell that has not been told. I applaud the author for being bold in writing about this subject matter. I also recommend this book called "LUST OF THE FLESH." This is yet another excellent story that has never been told in its fashion.
