About the Author

Robin Jones Gunn has a passion for communicating God's love to young hearts. She began writing story books for toddlers when her children were little. Her husband, Ross, has been a youth minister for over twenty years. While on a camping trip with teens from their youth group, Robin found some of the girls hiding away in their tent reading a stack of novels they'd brought with them from the library.

Curious as to what could keep these girls away from the sun, surf and guys, Robin borrowed three of their books. As she read them, her heart broke. They were not the kinds of stories these girls should be reading! After the camping trip Robin went to her Bible Bookstore and bought every book she could find that she thought would be interesting for the girls and have a good influence on them. The teens read all the books in a week and asked for more.

"There aren't any more," Robin told them. "That was all I could find." The teens challenged Robin by saying, "Then you write some for us. We'll even tell you what to write!"

Each week Robin would take a chapter and read it to her Sunday School class. And each week the teens would rip it apart, telling her how to rewrite the story. It took two years to complete Summer Promise, the first book in the CHRISTY MILLER series which was released in 1988. The twelve book series has sold over a million copies worldwide. Christy and Todd have been friends--good friends-- for years, but no they have been dating for a few months. Todd and Christy love each other, but they love God more than anything. When they go to Disneyland, Todd tells that he wouldn't want to live without her and "You are the most precious gift God has ever given to me, Kilikina." It's the most romantic thing ever! Then Todd finds out he's been accepted to go a on a missions trip. He tells Christy he's decided not to go... maybe he could have a year ago or a few months ago, but not then. They were too close. Christy can't believe it. Todd's wanted to be a missionary for forever and she knows deep inside that he should go. Finally one night on the beach she tells Todd that he has to go. They both just hold each other and cry like crazy... it made me cry too! Todd takes her "Forever" bracelet and tells Christy "You know that if I go, we might never see each other again." but then he promises "If we ever meet again in this world, I'll put this bracelet back on your wrist, and that time, my Kilikina, it will stay on forever." It's the most romantic book ever, but will also help you in your relationship with God. A great book for and teen girl.

I had read all the books about Christy, but I couldnt seem to find this story anywhere. When I finally did I was bummed. As a teen I read these books in a day, I wanted my life to be like this. Then I grew up after reading this story at age 19 I wanted to cry. Not because of the amazing way Christy let go of her boyfriend, but because of its unreal look at romance. Christy is such a spaz, her life is never the way she wants it. Even though she has the guy she loves she still is unhappy. I do know she grows up in the last story. But still, not as I remembered.

this book makes me cry every time the way Christy and Todd are so close and then.........they both have to make a desion. it hard to believe that nobody could cry if they read this book, because of the love and care foreach other. i DEFFINATLY recomend this book!
