Editorial Reviews

Review

Calista Shelby needs a husband. Her mother's will states that Calista must be married by her twenty- first birthday in order to keep her island plantation, Meadowmarsh. Calista goes to Charleston with her Aunt Lucinda to stay with her aunt and uncle, who intend to marry Calista off to their son, Baxter. Calista despises Baxter and concocts a plan of her own to elope with a willing and easily controlled suitor. She wants a husband who will let her run Meadowmarsh the way she wants-- but when her plan is foiled, it is Ryan Burke she turns to for comfort. Ryan is an attorney in Charleston and is quite taken with the beautiful young plantation owner. He knows Calista's plans are none of his business, but he still ends up coming to her rescue. When he is caught in a compromising situation with Calista, he has no choice but to marry her. Convinced she set him up, Ryan relinquishes all rights to Meadowmarsh and swears he will never live there. Following their hasty wedding, Calista returns to Meadowmarsh alone. She has what she wants-- control of her plantation-- but her heart yearns for more. Unexpected complications bring Ryan to Meadowmarsh on more than one occasion. His father, sister and brother have moved in with him because of his father's financial problems and he reluctantly takes them to Meadowmarsh. He has promised himself he will stay away from Calista and avoid having the bad marriage his own parents had. But he can't seem to fight the attraction he feels for the alluring woman who is his wife in name only. As trouble brews at Meadowmarsh, Ryan begins to care for Calista and her home. It is only a matter of time before Ryan and Calista give in to their passion-- and love.Sweet Enchantment will remind you of the South - it's hot!
