The bolts that hold these perches on are plastic and a little large--diameter about 3/4"--which keeps them from being used in cages with cage bars that are close together. They fit well on parrot or macaw cages. I make my own perch stands, so I had to buy a special tap to make threads in the wood center of Ziggy's portable perch in order to screw these perches into it, since the threads are an unusual size. But my vet said to get rid of the concrete trimming perches, so I had to do something. Obviously, I cannot report yet on the long term life of the product: in other words, after taking the perch off and cleaning it dozens of times, will the threads be as long-lasting as the metal threads on the concrete and other perches? But the perches are working well for the time being. Ziggy seems to like them.

There is one slight issue: the large plastic bolts are not solid, but are split down the middle, which leaves an opening for debris to get into--a fraction of an inch of the bolt that is between the inside of the cage and the outside. It is a little bit of a hassle to make sure that this opening is clean and is not serving as a home base for a new moth family.

EDIT, MARCH 2010: I might have to totally change my feeling on the product. I changed out the concrete perches for these because of the reddish marks on Ziggy's toes which the vet referred to as pressure sores from the concrete. But I am now seeing a couple of what looks like the beginnings of the same thing on my newest bird, Buddy, and Buddy has not been exposed to the concrete perches ever. I am taking him to the vet soon to see if the marks are what I think they are, and if so, I will have to get rid of these perches also, or at least only use one or two of them. Ziggy's feet have improved, however, since using these perches, but the sores are not gone, so I am sure that these perches are better than concrete, but I am not going to recommend them at this time. I am reserving judgment.
