The quintessential Bonnie Raitt album!,
By Michael Behler (Scarbro, West Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Forgiveness (Audio CD)
It is, by far, her best! To me, her later recordings, including "Nick of Time," were lack-luster and contrived. This folksy, bluesy concoction of really good songs with meaningful, passionate lyrics is one of my all-time favorite albums! END

Bonnie's first (almost) big hit album.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweet Forgiveness (Audio CD)
When this was released in 1977, it looked as if the mainstream was about to catch up with the incredible music machine named Bonnie Raitt. Alas, they would have to wait another 12 years until the release of Nick of Time. This one has it all, however. Containing some of Bonnie's most rocking numbers (Gamblin' Man and Three Time Loser) to her most mellow and introspective (Paul Siebel's classic "Louise" and her take on Jackson Browne's "Farewell", Sweet Forgiveness is one of the best of the early Raitt repetoire.

Great compilation,

This is one of my favorites. It has a nice mixture of music that demonstrate how versatile Bonnie is. There are acoustic cuts, like Louise, as well as some a little heavier on the rock/blues side like "Three Time Loser". Another favorite is the re-make of "Runaway". She does a very good job with an older song. This CD doesn't have as much of the blues (I like slide guitar) as some of her others, but is still very good.

Raitt's voice at her best on this uneven album,

This underrated album showcases Bonnie Raitt's excellent voice before she trashed it with too much hard living. It also illustrates her ability to perform truly satisfying blues/rock with a gifted band of musicians. Listeners who became Raitt fans with the release of "Nick of Time" and later albums, as well as listeners who thought "Nick" and later albums aren't all that great, will be impressed with this disc, which is a much better example of her bluesy rock sensibility than the overproduced albums of the '90s. The song selection is uneven, but it's worth the price for the title song alone, which showcases Raitt's confident, low-key approach during this period of her career.

"Two Lives" the standout,

This is a wonderful CD. Bonnie can't go wrong from the first track to the last, but what made it a superb CD, for me is #3 "Two Lives" The arrangement of the choral background and the heart breaking lyrics is beautiful. You find yourself singing along with the chorus, "Someone said time will ease the pain of losing your love." "But, I believe whorever wrote that song, never had a broken heart." Just a gorgeous song. I also like Bonnie's interpretation of Del Shannon's "Runaway." She gave it a piquant country flavor, very refreshing. This is a great CD,

Her best, I think...,
By Andrew Hardis (Cleveland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Forgiveness (Audio CD)
Although all of her albums are great, I consider this one her best, but this is probably because it is the first Bonnie Raitt album I purchased many years ago. Need I mention, Bonnie has a voice like an angel and is a person with a definate knack for the blues with a funky rock and roll heart. Bonnie is also one of those individuals that is constantly, always, striving for a great sound on her recordings (and live, did you see her on Leno?) and will never stop rocking. If you've never listened to her music, your missing out on one of the best musical talents ever.

I was taken aback when I discovered that AMAZON did not include this album in Bonnie's essential recordings list! This is by far her best! Many of her more recent recordings are too contrived. This folksy, bluesy concoction of really good songs with meaningful, passionate lyrics is one of my all-time favorites!

I've had this as an album, a cassette and now the remastered CD. I absolutely adore this collection. It's Bonnie Raitt at her best and that is fine indeed.
