I can't believe that on Amazon, where it seems like the average review for every item is 5 stars, that this cd is rated so low! I suppose if you don't like Johnny's vocals, you won't like this cd. But to call this recording "average" and give it 3 stars is ridiculous. This is Johnny Mercer singing in front of a great orchestra. The fidelity might not be the best, but who cares? There aren't that many Mercer recordings out there, so you gotta take what you can get.
In short, like any Johnny Mercer recording I've heard, the cd is WONDERFUL. As soon as I hear Johnny start in with "I met her by the river saint marie" I get chills. He was definitely one of the most talented musicians of the century, and this is a real cool date to check out.
And it's true, the version of Sweet Georgia Brown is fun, but it's not even the highlight of the disc because everything else is so good too.

I was delighted to receive my 3 Johnny Mercer CDs so promptly.I was a bit concerned after ordering them that they would be too much the same. However,they all delivered on their promise. I love the cleverness of Johnny Mercer's lyrics. I love their tempo and their positivity. I love curling up on the couch with my boyfriend to listen to them and smooch to them.
I love Johnny Mercer.

I thought this album was pretty good...the Harlem Globe Trotters' Theme on this is excellent
