5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Horror Film, April 22, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Insanity (DVD)
I happened to see this film in January 2006 at a sneak preview and it rocks! Unlike most current horror films, Director Daniel Hess has created a truly scary film without special effects and/or phoney creatures (no vampires!!) This film reminds me of Identity - it takes real mental illness and creates numerous scares that could really happen. His style reminds me of Hitchcock, especially the ending that completely surprises. The subtle clues that Hess leaves throughout the story all point to the ending, and I had to watch this a second time to catch them all.

The music, although not from any bands I recognized, was great. And Rebekah Isaacs is very, very hot.

Prepare to be scared - don't miss this one; it's really different and well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars These reviews are just not true., October 27, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Insanity (DVD)
I've viewed this film a number of times and completely disagree with many of the comments by other reviewers. First of all, the cinematography is first rate, obviously shot by a pro not "someone with a home video camera." That comment is totally bogus. The plot was very interesting and the ending is not "predictable." I liked the creative use of power tools in the kill scenes. The acting is pretty good too, much better than I've seen in many other genre films - the characters were believable and not just "acting." The editing was better than most low budget horror films and I liked the music alot - especially the ending song. This film is definately worth watching - go rent it and see for yourself - don't believe some pimple-faced 14 year old reviewer who only likes films that are 98% special effects.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very SWEET Indeed!, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Sweet Insanity (DVD)
Whoever wrote the previous review MUST be on drugs. SWEET INSANITY is a very capable horror pic that holds some genuinely disturbing ideas presented to us by a very confident attitude to narrative pacing and strong approach to imagery. It sets itself apart from other pics in that instead of beginning `cold', like too many low budget horrors these days, it eases us into the story and eventually taking us on a frightening ride. The film is a solid visual experience and occasionally startles us with well-placed images such as the numerous `out of the box' killings. You won't be disappointed by this chiller. SWEET is sweet indeed!
