just because i produced this cd, doesn't mean i don't know greatness when i hear it. hamilton came into the studio utterly prepared and we recorded his vocals and guitars simultaneously, then we overdubbed his harmonica and then sat back and listened to the tunes and decided what they might need. i suggested kenny lyon for fretless bass, and he did an impeccable job. then i suggested paul barrere from little feat to do some slide (as he did on my own all woood and stones cd last year). he was brilliant. then hamilton honored me by suggesting that i do the remaining guitars, which i did. but it is his artistry and his performance that give these songs so very much heart. and the fact that he passed away within three days of completion of sweet joy, gives the songs all the more poignancy. it's as if he knew he was leaving and wanted this legacy to remain as not only a "sweet joy" but a comfort. i love this recording.

This was Hamid Camp's last album, as he has now passed on to sing Elsewhere! This music shows his awareness of his aging.He got wiser as he got older and its there in the music. DOn't miss it! So sweet.

I had the pure joy of seeing Hamilton Camp in the late 60's. He played at "The Candy Company" in La Mesa, Ca. He was a true Renaissance Man. And like so many, he never received critical acclaim, or riches for his work. All through his career, he gave the impression that writing, singing, and acting were reward in themselves. His final contribution, "Sweet Joy", is a perfect way to say "Goodbye".
Thank You Hamilton for bringing so much joy to the rest of us. Your work will live on for ages.
