Voice of Innocence,
By Victoria Coats (NYC, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Kisses (Audio CD)
Jessica Simpson has a great voice and true talent. She's not a fake Britney Spears wannabe and has great style and songs. Jessica is most definately a rising star and a good role model, in attitude and the way she deals with her fame. Her CD is not only something worth listening to, but buying, and the people who don't buy her CD will regret it and are missing something big!1. I Wanna Love You Forever (5/5)- Alright, this song probably gets old to people who have heard too much, but I still love it. In this song alone it shows that Jessica can sing better then most teen pop stars, and singers for that matter! 2. I Think I'm In Love With You (4/5)- Great dance music, it's fun and upbeat, but they the same sentences a few too many times in certain parts of the song and it's kind of annoying. 3. Where You Are (4/5)- A super sweet ballad done by Jessica and her boyfriend Nick Lachey. Unfortunately it's overplayed by radio stations, but the first time I heard it, I cried. The song is amazing! 4. Final Heartbreak (5/5)- I'll just say it, the first time I heard it, I hated it, but the second time, I fell in love with it! Great music, lyrics, and a mix of rock, pop, and early 90's music. 5. Woman In Me (2/5)- Duet between Jess and Destiny's Child. At first I thought I'd really like this song but I was disapointed with it. Good intro, music and chorus, but as for the rest of the song? Eh... 6. I've Got My Eyes on You (5/5)- LOVE IT! Fun, happy, catchy, upbeat, really good live too. I swear, this should *definately, no questions asked* should be Jessica's next single! This is my favorite fast song The music and lyrics are spectacular! DON'T SKIP THIS SONG! 7. Betcha She Don't Love You (4/5)- Fun, Catchy.....but not as good as some of her other songs. The ending is kind of annoying, but other then that, you will catch yourself dancing to this! 8. My Wonderful (3/5)- I know all the other reviews liked this song, but it bugs me. I don't know what it is.....maybe it's because she under estimates the power of her voice in this song, and I personally think if you've got it, flaunt it. Good music though...it shows some variety, country and pop. Um....more of a slow song then a fast song, but a little of both. 9. Sweet Kisses (4/5)- I like this song, and it has good music...but the message sounds kind of Britney Spears. Slow ballad that's a bit too slow and just a bit depressing, but overall a good song. It's kind of hard to explain the good qualities(and there definately are some)so listen yourself...I didn't rate this song 4 stars for nothing! 10. Your Faith In Me (5/5)- This song is inspirational, and also amazing! Major POWER BALLAD! This is my absoulute favorite song! It has an excellant message. I think Jessica made a mistake. This is the song that the album should be named after. This song shows Jessica's amazing voice and has a bit of gospel in it. GREAT EVERYTHING! 11. Heart Of Innocence (5/5)- Two words.......great song. Not as good as "Your Faith In Me", but very few songs can compare to that ballad, as far as I'm concerned. Jessica co-wrote this song, and I think it has one of the best types of music on this CD. Good lyrics. To say at least, this song is worth your time.

Wow.......Can Jessica Sing or what?,
By Ben McDermott (Fort Erie Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Kisses (Audio CD)
Well, here's the latest female teenage singer trying her luck in the music biz. But unlike others, Jessica Simpson isn't concerned about her sexuality, or showing off her body, she just wants to sing! And that's exactly what she does on her debut album "Sweet Kisses". This album features a mix of power pop ballads and catchy, groovy songs that show off Jessica's angelic voice. Sony wasted no time showing off her powerful voice on her debut top 3 smash "I Wanna Love You Forever". This typical tour de force ballad is chilling, featuring an over the top string arrangement and a haunting piano composition that is almost spine tingling to listen to. Jessica sings her heart out on the song, reaching notes that are in Celine Dion's and Whitney Houston's range (and she's only a teenager.) Other memorable moments on the album include the catchy "I Think I'm In Love" which samples John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane." This song has a infectious chorus that certainly could find a home at top 40 radio. On "Final Heartbreak", Jessica utilizes Eric Foster White (Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys) who in turn gives her a strong song that is very "pop-like", however it sounds a lot like certain songs on Britney Spears debut album which takes away from the originality of the track. Carl Struken and Evan Rodgers lend a hand with two tracks including the surprisingly fresh track "I've Got My Eyes On You" and the clever "Betcha She Don't Love You" which unfortunately sounds a bit too much like Christina Aguliera's song "Love For All Seasons." Some guest also appear including label mates Destiny Child, who lend their voices on the feminist-like track "The Women In Me", which is well produced and arranged. 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey(who happens to be dating Jessica), lends his vocals on "Where You Are", which unfortunately doesn't do justice to either of their talents or the emotion behind their relationship. However, there is magic on this album starting with the simple yet compelling "My Wonderful" which features a warm, intimate melody that will be stuck in your head instantly after hearing it. The magic grows into enchantment on "Your Faith In Me", which is quite simply the best song on the album. Written and produced by Dane Deviller and Sean Hosein, (two of the best) the song is simply beautiful. Jessica sings with her heart on her sleeve, tapping into the songs emotional theme. The arrangement on this song is breathtaking including a choir that sounds heavenly and some impressive string work. Songs like this are most impressive. Certainly a very good first effort from a singer who has some serious potential, to become the next Celine Dion. She just needs a bit more inspiring material to take her to the next level. (Jessica.....ever heard of Diane Warren? Give her a call! )

Jessica brings one of the most powerfull voices I've heard so far with Sweet Kisses. This CD has it all from the Up Beat with "I think I'm In love with you" to the hit "I wanna love you forever" this CD is a must have for all music fans. I rank her with Mariah Carey for the power in her voice and the way she sings the songs. It will catch you and not let go.--Chris

See, the way I look at it is, Mandy Moore:Britney Spears as Jessica Simpson:Christina Aguilera. Jessica has a strong, clear sound like Christina, while mandy has this childlike, baby voice like Britney. The only problem that I mainly see, besides the teeny bopping, cookie cutting, bubble gum popping, blondies, is that she whines when she sings. Don't get me wrong, she has a strong voice, but it's like she tries too hard and at points in her songs, it sounds like she whines.

A Wonderful CD,
By Amanda Goodwin (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Ok, just for all the people talking about how Jessica screams *unlike* Christina... Have you ever HEARD Christina sing? I'll admit Jess' voice goes a little Mariah on some songs (namely I Wanna Love You Forever), but, hey- if you got the voice, use it.I personally feel that she is MUCH better than Britney, since her voice and looks are genuine. Plus, Jess is bringing a good name to Dallas. :) Here are my reviews on each song: 1. I Wanna Love You Forever- A great song, just not my favorite. 2. I Think I'm In Love With You- Definitely my favorite of the fast songs. 3. Where You Are- I love this song, but I got kinda sick of it. 4. Final Heartbreak- A pretty good song, but I usually skip over it. 5. Woman In Me- Sorry, but I don't like this song. Not even Destiny's Child could save it. 6. I've Got My Eyes On You- Hey, everyone, leave this song alone! ;) It's a great tune to dance to. 7. Betcha She Don't Love You- An ok song, but it reminds me of a Britney song so I don't really like it. 8. My Wonderful- A really sweet ballad.. I like it better than IWLYF. 9. Sweet Kisses- I cannot stand this song. I like the lyrics and all, but the beginning tune drives me CRAZY. I have to skip this song. 10. Your Faith In Me- Now THIS is a power-ballad! It's my absolute favorite. 11. Heart Of Innocence- Jess helped write this one. I like it a lot, it has a good message. I'm "saving myself" too, so I relate to it. Overall, the good songs make up for minor flaws. I definitely recommend this CD!

This CD is good, but not like I thought it would be. I think she has a beautiful voice but I don't like her uptempo songs. She is better on the ballads such as My Wonderful, Sweet Kisses(my fav.) and I Wanna Love YOu Forever. Better than Britney Spears, but not as good as Mandy Moore or Christina Aguilera.

With this voice, Jessica Simpson will be loved forever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweet Kisses (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD. The song, I Wanna Love You Forever, is a strong, slow, song that starts off with some creepy notes (as in, piano notes), but definatley shows the power of her voice. I Think I'm In Love kinda reminds me of Britney Spears, but is definately a catchy tune that will make you want to dance. Where You Are is a song you'll want to listen to again and again, because it shows the power of Jessica and 98 degrees member Nich Lachey's voice and relationship. Final Heartbreak is a tune that I love, but is also a bit like Britney. The Woman in Me is a song that shows that Jessica is not going to let a boy control her, and will be able to make her own desicions. Oh yes, Destiney's Child is excellent on this song. I've Got My Eyes On You is good.THe rest, Betcha She Don't Love You, My Wonderful, Sweet Kisses, Your Faith in Me, and Heart of Innocence are as well, excellent. My personal fav is Heart of Innocence. Buy this CD, and you won't be sorry. You will be able to listen to it again and again!

Powerful Voice Seeking Better Material,
By Aaron (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Kisses (Audio CD)
I really like Jessica Simpson. I think she has a great and powerful voice and has an awesome range that put her contempoaries to shame. "Sweet Kisses" was her 1999 debut and although it's a good pop record, it contains way too much filler. But there are definitely some winners on here. The first single "I Wanna Love You Forever" was a very promising debut single. It was a huge hit and Jessica was suddenly hailed as the next Mariah Carey. The song itself is a gorgeous and well written power ballad and was hands down one of the best songs to come out of the teen pop era of 98-01. The second single "Where You Are" is also a pleasant ballad with now husband Nick Lachey and it was a minor hit. Jessica had another huge radio hit with "I Think I'm In Love" which samples John Melloncamp's "Jack and Diane." I didn't like it back in the summer of 2000 when it was being played on the radio hourly, but now i love it. It's light-hearted bubble-gum pop. As for the non-singles, "I've Got My Eyes On You" and "Betcha She Don't Love You" are fun pop songs with catchy dance beats. "Sweet Kisses" is a sweet little ballad and the last two songs "Your Faith In Me" and "Heart of Innocense" definitely reveal Jessica's gospel background and let her show off her pipes. The problem with Jessica is that she has the voice, but her material just doesn't live up to it. Her follow-up "Irresistible" didn't help the problem any. It's more of a dance-pop album but it still lack direction and from what I've heard of "In This Skin", it's the same. Fellow former teen queens Britney, Christina and Mandy have all found their place in music, but Jessica is still just...there. I strongly believe if hse got better writers, she would have one heck of an album. She has the talent.

There is no question that Jessica Simpson has a lot of vocal talent. A lot of that talent gets showcased on this CD. It has its share of upbeat songs and the power ballads. I like the majority of the songs on this album and I usually listen to the whole album all the way through if I get the chance to.The song that put her on the map was I Wanna Love You Forever. I didn't like that song at first, but it grew on me and now I like it. Where You Are, her song with boyfriend Nick Lachey, was the song that got me started on Jessica Simpson. I loved that song and eventually lead me to buying the whole album. My second favorite on the album would have to be her current single out there, I Think I'm In Love With You. It is the perfect song for the summer. All in all, I thought this CD was well worth my money. It is not my favorite album, but it is definately an enjoyable one, especially if you like this type of music. I like all of the upbeat songs and the ballads are worthy. I recommend Sweet Kisses to anyone who likes this type of music because Jessica has a lot of talent.

The lowdown,
By Jennifer S. (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Kisses (Audio CD)
This overall, is a very cute cd. It seems Jessica's strong point is her ballads. Most of her ballads (which make up most of the album!) are very beautiful and emotionful, especially "My Wonderful", "Where You Are", and "Your Faith In Me". On the other hand, her fast songs can be a bit "cutesy". They can become a bit typical and annoying, in my opinion, especially "I've Got My Eyes on You". The two ones that are any good are excellent, "Final Heartbreak" and "Woman In Me". I think that if you really liked "I'm Gonna Love You Forever" and "Where You Are", you will love this album!
