I must confess, I read this book about a month ago, but it was so unmemorable that I had to re-read the description and a few reviews prior to recall the storyline. That being said, once I did recall the storyline, I have to say that Kyla ranks right up there with the heroine in Lady Pirate as one of my favorites. If you like sharp, sensible and independent heroines who...

5.0 out of 5 stars An Eye for an Eye, A Wife for a Wife, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Sweet Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
In keeping with her other books, "Sweet Revenge" encompassed all of the typical aspects found in a Sands novel ... romance, humor, wit, an interesting subplot, and a strong relationship between the hero and heroine.

Laird Galen MacDonald's wife was murdered nine months past by his nemesis, Laird MacGregor. When Galen learns that the MacGregor plans to take an English woman as a bride, he decides to get his revenge by stealing her and marrying her himself.

Lady Kyla Forsythe, the English bride in question, quickly realizes her feelings for the man who ambushed her traveling party, captured her, and wedded her. And above all else, is grateful to him for stealing her away from the MacGregor, a man rumored to have beaten his first wife to death.

The book was a trademark Lynsay Sands in that it was witty and humorous throughout. She also wove an interesting murder-mystery subplot throughout the novel to keep the book well-paced. If you liked "The Deed", you will love "Sweet Revenge".

5.0 out of 5 stars No, its not the same as Garwood's "The Wedding"- its better, September 24, 2006

I'm a big fan of Julie Garwood books and at first Sweet Revenge got me thinking of Garwood's The Wedding *deja vu*, but Sands book is much better and that says alot. Most of Garwoods historicals are 10 stars books IMHO, but The Wedding isn't. The hero and heroine are not as likeable as they are here in Sand's Sweet Revenge. So, don't let it put you off that if you've read a *similar* story. This one is definitely worth a read.

In a nutshell, the basic plot revolves around revenge. Laird Galen MacDonald ambushes and abuducts his enemies bride-to-be. Its revenge for the killing of his own bride and their unborn babe. He weds the unsuspecting english woman while she's unable to refuse (have to read it to find out that one out :)) The rest of the book explores their growning attraction, her acceptance into the clan and of course, the enemies counter revenge.

So what makes this better than The Wedding? Simple, its the humor. Sands has a gift when it comes to making a historical funny. I laughed many times reading this one. The characters are excellent. Galen is perfect (who knew I could love a red-haired hero!!). He's kind and loving and very patient with Kyla. He understands that he forced her into this marriage and plans to make it up to her. The love scenes are *REALLY* steamy and hot, as in ala Kleypas/Jefferies books for camparison.

Get this book. Great characters, very good plot, just enough drama and plenty of good lovin'.

If you liked this genre, I would also recommend:
For Humor....
Sands- The Key, Bliss & What She Wants (can't recommend The Deed - I don't like dumb heroines)

More Dramatic...
Garwood- The Bride & its sequel The Wedding, The Secret and its sequel Ransom
Paula Quinn- The Lord of Temptation and The Lord of Seduction

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this madness or love??? Since its Lynsay might be both!!, February 6, 2002
This review is from: Sweet Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
Well, Lynsay is back with another delightful tell.

After her brother's nearly fatal wounding, she flees the hills of her Highlands and finds herself captured by a well-muscled Scotsmen.

Little did she know the Scotsman was bent on revenge. Laird Galen MacDonald's wife was murdered nine months beforet by his enemy, Laird MacGregor. When Galen learns that the MacGregor plans to take an English woman as a bride, he decides to get his revenge by stealing her and marrying her himself.

Lynsay's character is no weak-willed miss, and while thrilled she is saved from having to marry the MacGregor, she plans a little revenge of her!!

Lynsay proves once again she is a writer that delivers!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shades of Julie Garwood., September 16, 2005
This review is from: Sweet Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
Lady Kyla Forsythe's sister-in-law, the treacherous Catriona, sends Kyla, and her faithful servant Morag, away without waiting for their recovery from the injuries they've suffered thanks to her. Catriona wants Kyla to marry the murderous MacGregor to keep her away from her home and her injured brother so she can manipulate him.

On her way to Scotland, Kyla and Morag are captured by Galen MacDonald and his men. Galen wants to marry Kyla because the MacGregor killed his wife and unborn baby. The Scottish laird wants revenge, but he claimed that the sweetest dish of all was never served cold...

Read it. You'll love it.

If you like sharp, sensible and independent heroines who are quite capable of taking care of themselves, then you'll definitely like her. Galen was your typical rough around the edges man with a secret heart of gold - they're a dime a dozen in most romance novels. Nonetheless, he plays his part well and helps create an entertaining read. Not my favorite Lynsay Sands book, but not terrible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot and Hilarious, May 24, 2011

This review is from: Sweet Revenge (Kindle Edition)
Very hot love scenes and lots of humor outside the boudoir! Laird Galen McDonald's wife was murdered by another Laird (albeit accidentally) - so Galen plans the ultimate revenge. He will steal Laird MacGregor's intended bride who is enroute to his castle for their wedding. He does not however; realize what a wildcat Lady Kyla Forsythe is.

After he and his men completely cut down her guarded escort, she takes them on with a small hunting knife in an effort to keep from being captured. Of course they still capture her but she does inflict a few wounds herself and shows them that she has a lot of spirit.

Through the story, the clan becomes attached to her as they think her feisty attitude is just what their Laird needs. Lynsay Sands has such wit and it really comes out in her stories. Kyla is rather clumsy and is often getting herself into awkward situations which are really quite funny. Too often the men of the clan find themselves covering for her to avoid both her and their embarrassment.
If a light and breezy read with romance and hot men in kilts is to your liking - you'll love this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, October 18, 2010
This review is from: Sweet Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
I love humorous historicals and this one did not disappoint. Reminds me of the historicals that Julie Garwood used to write. Loved the interaction between the main and secondary characters. I will definitely be reading other books by this author.
