Inspiring, Beautiful, Poignant, June 21, 2011
This review is from: Sweet Sister Moon (Paperback)
Norbert Krapf has written many inspiring poetry books, but I especially adore Sweet Sister Moon for honoring manifestations of the feminine both corporeal and archetypal. This poignant collection of poems has brought me to tears many times. Indiana's former poet laureate highlights pieces written in honor of the beloved women of his life, including a beautiful poem called "When the Call Came," which describes the moment that he and his wife got the phone call to adopt their daughter. Expressing an earthy reverence for nature, love, and the mystery of life, Sweet Sister Moon is a gem that is worthy of much contemplation and awe.

male poet celebrates all things female, June 2, 2011
This review is from: Sweet Sister Moon (Paperback)
I would have loved SWEET SISTER MOON even if it were written by a female, but the fact that a male showed such understanding, appreciation, and sensitivity as he constructed these delicious poems makes them that much more wondrous to me. Norbert Krapf, Indiana's former Poet Laureate, has created a masterpiece celebrating all things female. He found inspiration mainly in his family members-mother, sisters (especially poignant are his poems written about his still-born sister Marilyn), wife, and daughter-but Krapf also salutes such various and wonderful women as Emily Dickinson and Billie Holiday, as well as a host of mythical and mysterious muses. Some of the poems are deeply serious, some are simple and quiet, and some (as in the chapter revelling in women musicians) are full of juicy and soulful energy. This is a book to be savored a poem at a time. Female readers will rejoice that a man not only "got" all their contradictory and beautiful complexity, he also delightfully wrote it down. And SWEET SISTER MOON will help male readers more fully celebrate all things female, whether they "get it" or not.

A Beautiful Book, December 7, 2009
This review is from: Sweet Sister Moon (Paperback)
I read a review of this book in our local paper, The Indianapolis Star. There was part of one of the poems in the review and it touched my soul. I HAD to order this book. It is one of the most moving, beautiful poetry books I have ever read!
He writes with such feeling and emotion...I can feel it in all of the poems. I love this book!
