Alers gives her main characters time to grow with each other as opposed to falling headfirst into a physical relationship, by far the best part of the book. RT Book Reviews on Sweet Destiny (4 stars)

I loved this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down until the very last page. Levi is just dreamy as the hero and Angela holds her own with him. I have so many accolades that I will just have to limit myself to the very best ones. I have always been a huge fan of Ms. Alers and just keeps putting out quality stories one after the other.

Levi Eaton is a pediatrician working temporarily in a small town that does not have many paying customers. He is asked by the Doctor who owns the practice to escort his sister, Angela Chase, to a wedding where she is sure to meet up with her ex-fiance. Angela's ex ran off to Las Vegas with her best friend and maid of honor right after the rehearsal dinner. Neither Levi nor Angela wanted a long-term relationship so you would think that both of them would be happy with the situation. They met and then found themselves agreeing to a relationship before they knew what was happening. Levi and Angela was to go their separate ways after the wedding but they found themselves planning dates left and right. Of course, they talked themselves into believing that they were just friends.

The most delightful aspect of the story was when both of them were trying to get their own way and they had to compromise. Their repartee in coming to the compromise was just wonderful. I couldn't stop chuckling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

Sweet Southern Nights by Rochelle Alers was ok. There was nothing particularly memorable about Levi and Angela in this novel. Both were attracted to one another and agreed to see where that took them. He was more of a free spirit where Angela was a bit uptight. IMHO, the couple lacked sensuality with one another.

I felt the author contrived their break-up. I mean, we know that every good romance has a major break up to see whether the main characters re-unite, right? Well, Levi's and Angela's felt forced and it just seemed unnatural for Levi to respond to Angela's secret the way that he did.

This was the first book that I have read from The Eaton series. Before this, the only Rochelle Alers books that I had read were the short story compilations (Living Large, Rosie's Curl and Weave, Della's House of Style,, etc).

In this book, Levi Eaton and Angela Chase are two who have all but sworn off love relationships and settled for "just friends" instead of romantic commitments. The two are set up together as a favor to Angela's brother, but they cannot ignore their strong attraction to one another. As they spend more time together, just friends becomes more and more difficult, and both start to rethink their love philosophies.

This story was mainly a sweet, simple love story. This was so much the case that, unfortunately, there was no real tension or climax in the book. This made the book move a little slower than it should have. In the last chapter or two, the author tried to create some tension, but it felt very forced, was short lived, and just did not work.

If you are looking for a sweet love story with no tension, then this is a good read for that. It you want a little more of a true to life romance with real problems to which you can relate, then look elsewhere.

Note: This review was originally posted on Goodreads.com.

Additionally, I found the narrator of the audio version of the book to be quite dry. Perhaps a better choice would have helped the story a little.

Sweet Southern Nights is a fantastic throwback to a good romantic story. I fell in love with Levi and Angela as they journeyed from not wanting long term relationships to realizing they were meant for each other like the air they breathe. Dr. Levi Eaton is a man's man. I like that he stood up to Angela's ex and protected her from the humiliation of seeing him again. So glad he took a chance on Angela it was the start of something great.

There was no unnecessary outside drama or unrealistic problems just for the sake of a story. Instead between the pages of this book I found relatable dialogue, grown and sexy adults making decision based on honest emotions and supportive family members/friends. It was also refreshing to have the story take place in Kentucky which allows the reader a glimpse into the Kentucky Derby.
The timely scene where Levi was called to another city to help take care of injured tornado victims was chilling considering what's happened across our country in the last two weeks. Out of the devastation came a fragile trust between Levi and Angela. My favorite scene in the book is the one in which Levi returns from helping the victims into Angela's waiting arms; beautiful. Even with all the love that grows Angela does not reveal her true occupation until it is too late.

I would have loved more interaction between the couple and Angela's brothers and wanted the reconciliation to be more fleshed out. All in all it's a good love story that will leave you hopeful and believing good things come to those most deserving.
