3.0 out of 5 stars Ok...not what expected
This sweet spot was just that...sweet. it was not what i expected from Kayla, i have read some of her other books and I guess that is what you get when you assume, but I assume that this book would resemble the others in some shape of fashion. I did not like the way that it ended. it left to many questions for me still unanswered.

Kahari Brown, star wide receiver of his professional football team, is wary of journalists. He has seen the detrimental impact their zealous investigations and reporting has had on the life of his teammates and on his game in the past and so he avoids them as much as possible. He's come to an unspoken agreement with most of the regular journalists that cover his team. In fact, despite a small report by a tabloid paper on a woman who claims he has fathered her child, most of the journalists who cover his team have avoided asking him about that event just to keep the trickle of information that he is will to provide about his game coming.

All of that changes when aspiring sports journalist Zoë Andrews walks into an after-game interview session determined to make it big by getting an interview with Kahari. When her chance comes to ask questions, she freezes and then abruptly asks about his alleged child. Kahari is disgusted. He has no idea that Zoë is driven by unresolved issues with her own deadbeat dad, a former NFL player. As strongly as Kahari avoids journalists, Zoë avoids professional sports player like the plague.

Despite their inauspicious beginning, Zoë and Kahari have undeniable chemistry and a deep attraction for each other. When Zoë decides to get the story from the supposed mother of Kahari's child to propel her own career, tempers and sparks begin to flare.

As always, Kayla Perrin crafts a fun, engaging tale with well-developed characters and a charming storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Hit The Spot, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Sweet Spot (Mass Market Paperback)
This was not my first book by Kayla Perrin and it did not capture my attention like the others. I enjoyed the book but it got kind of slow on me at times. Other than that, this story was very realsitic and I will still look forward to reading more of Ms. Perrins's books!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Sweet Spot has nothing to do with football. . . ., February 5, 2008
This review is from: The Sweet Spot (Paperback)
Wide receiver Kahari Brown is a star on and off the field. He gives back to his community by keeping troubled youth active and off the streets and attempts to maintain a quiet and calm lifestyle despite being a celebrity.

If he could get his baby sister out of his house and working and crazy groupie Estela Rivera to stop claiming that he is the father of her child then everything would be all good. Enter Zoë Andrews. She's an ambitious beauty who is determined to make a name for herself in the world of sports. Zoë dreams of becoming a big name sportscaster one day and decides to take the initiative and try and interview Kahari during a post-game interview session. She asks him about his supposed child with Estela and immediately gets on Kahari's bad side.

In spite of their unfavorable first encounter, Zoë and Kahari have an awesome attraction for each other and learn so much about what makes them the incredible individuals that they are. When some more drama arises regarding another woman claiming to have some dirt about Kahari's past, they both need to make a decision on whether or not to trust each other.

Though the storyline kept me interested, I felt that there were some missing pieces. Like whatever happened to Estela after her self-destruction and why couldn't they get her to take a paternity test?

Overall, this was an attention-grabbing story from author Kayla Perrin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Pace Read, October 15, 2007

LaTreka (Stone Mountain, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweet Spot (Mass Market Paperback)
Kahari Brown is a wide receiver for the Raiders who tries to have as little drama as possible in his life so he can continue to have the least amount of distractions on the field.
Zoe Andrews is a striving reporter hoping to get that big break as a sportscaster. So when she goes to a Raiders game with hopes of speaking with Kahari (who rarely ventures from online generic answers when it comes to reporters)she hopes to get the breaking point interview of her career. Needless to say, she does but not the way she planned.
This book has a fast pace and instantly hooks the reader on page one. There were times when I was laughing and times when I was like Zoe what are you doing?... But she is the type of character that will have you rooting for her to the very end.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting sports romance, June 17, 2006
This review is from: The Sweet Spot (Paperback)
Oakland Raider wide receiver Kahari Brown is regarded by his peers as the best at his position today. However, he is prouder of his accomplishments with keeping youths off the street. The only sore points in his idyllic Beverly Hills lifestyle are his aimless sister LaTonya and Estela Rivera who accuses him of fathering her child.

That all changes when he meets Los Angeles transplant correspondent Zoe Andrews, who struggles to make a name in sports reporting. Bad things seem to always happen to her just when things look good; to Kahari's chagrin she has transferred her curse onto him as he suddenly is dropping passes, the media is having a field day with the paternity accusations, and finally Estela stalks Kahari as she believes he loves her.

This is an interesting sports romance with a touch of intrigue caused by Estela. Kahari's belief that Zoe is his jinx highlights that many sports figures are superstitious and adhere to strict routines when things are going great and try mumbo jumbo when in a slump. The story line is character driven as fans will claim the lead couple is a MVP (most valuable pairing). A clever blending of serious life issues with an amusing "courtship", SWEET SPOT is a fun contemporary tale.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a favorite, April 22, 2008
This review is from: Sweet Spot (Mass Market Paperback)
This was not a bad book at all. It just lacked substance to me. It didn't really leave me with any lasting thoughts. It is the type of book that you can easily forget you even read. I just was not crazy about this story at all.
