4.0 out of 5 stars good for collectors
While probably not worthwhile for the casual fan, those who crave access to the rarer Smiths songs will find this CD to be of great value. I Keep Mine Hidden is a short and chipper little song that grows on you in time, Work is a Four Letter Word is a fine cover of the Cilla Black song, and What's the World? is my personal favorite on the disc, a live cover of an...

3.0 out of 5 stars hmm...
This single is necessary for Smiths completists, as it contains their two last songs, not available elsewhere, a cover of Cilia Black's Work is a Four-letter Word and I Keep Mine Hidden. Both of them are pleasant enough, if not exactly stunning--no need for the casual fan to bother. Oh yeah, it also for some reason features an ancient James song, What's the World,...

Both of them are pleasant enough, if not exactly stunning--no need for the casual fan to bother. This is a must-have for any devoted fan of The Smiths. 'I keep mine hidden' alone is worth the cost.

I bought this so I would have a Smiths version of I Keep Mine Hidden (I already have a version of Morrissey singing it live), which is a great rockabilly tune and one that both Moz and Marr can be extra proud of. (This was also the last song they wrote and I believe, recorded together, which is extra poignant). And a bonus was Work is a Four Letter Word, a cover song that Marr hated, but Moz insisted on, a plucky little song and fun to listen to. If you don't have these 2 tunes in your Smiths/Morrissey collection, this was an easy, cheap way to get them.

The Smiths are one of my favorite bands, but this single just isn't very good. "Sweet and Tender Hooligan" is a great song, but the single's three extra tracks just aren't up to the high standard that The Smiths set throughout their short career. If you're a completest, a review won't stop you from buying this. For everyone else, however, the disc just isn't worth the cash.

4.0 out of 5 stars The last reviewer is talking tosh., October 7, 2005

Last fella stated that I keep mine hidden & work is a four lettered are only available on this cd-single. Garbage.

Reissue, Repackage, Revaluate....

Both songs appeared on the Girlfriend In A Coma EP.

Any true Smiths fan would have these in their collection albeit on vinyl.

Look out for the Girlfriend EP.

Sweet & Tender is a b-side to Sheila & appears on Louder Than Bombs.. the Warner definitive collection.
