My wife and I have enjoyed all of Denise Gee's cookbooks with Chronicle--they are written with such wit and clever insights that we actually READ them. Sweet on Texas is our new favorite. We love making desserts for dinner parties--it's always what we offer to bring to potlucks. So we were won over by the fantastic desserts featured in this--from pineapple tamales to the best chocolate pie you'll ever taste. The photographs of Robert Peacock are pretty enough to tear out and frame. This book is our new favorite balm for our family's sweet tooth.

Any cookbook by Denise Gee gets my vote for originality, easy-to-follow recipes, entertaining story-telling (she comes from a long line of Southern Ladies who cooked and entertained like only Southern Ladies can), and just plain old deliciousness. And any book on Texan food is sure to be good, especially desserts, because Texans love good food. And dessert. This is pretty much summed up in the recipe for Aunt Cora's Hummingbird Cake on page 134. Start there. I did. And I'm hummin' my way through the rest of Denise's Texas best. Yum.

This cookbook is a treasure, filled with recipes I remember from my childhood as well as some wonderful new treats. When I first picked it up, my intention was to just thumb through it. But, I was taken in by the beautiful pictures and mouth-watering recipes and actually read it cover to cover. This book would be a perfect addition to anyone's cookbook collection. I highly recommend it!

This book is absolutely terrific and a lot of fun, containing some of the state's most iconic deserts and treats from those made by our moms and grandmothers to some surprises from Texas's most beloved restaurants. We can't believe they gave their recipes away but are glad they did! Traditional yummy deserts, all styled and photographed beautifully, along with some new, innovative twists to old favorites. It's a great gift for anyone who wants to celebrate all the sweetness Texas has to offer.
