Book Description

December 1, 2001
In Meriwether's first work of fiction, reality meets with the supernatural on a snowy Christmas Eve as thirteen-year-old Hazard Stiles discovers a stray horse in the darkness. When he ropes the horse to return it to its owner, he finds himself being lifted into the air -- the stallion has wings! Hazard drops to the ground and is face-to-face with two mysterious figures. So illusory is their presence that he believes them to be angels sent to answer his prayer of a cure for his father. From that moment on, the destiny of the Stiles family is forever changed. With unrelenting suspense, this action novel carries the reader through a fateful highway accident, mounting apprehensions about life-threatening illness, bitter strife between husband and wife, difficult decisions about family responsibility, horse thieves, the kidnapping of two teenagers and a double murder to drive the story to a gripping climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Uncertainty, October 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweet Uncertainty: Fantasy and Reality Intersect in a Suspense Novel of Discovery (Paperback)
Sweet Uncertainty is an engaging fantasy about a boy, his rodeo-loving family, a winged horse, and two friends from another dimension. Hazard Stiles grows up quickly, as he saves his father from certain death, locates a stolen horse and confronts the thieves. With the help of his new friends--Polytumba and Ashalla--Hazard learns patience and grows in wisdom; and, the entire family learns about death--is it final? ... Or not? The characters in this book are so clearly drawn that they remained with me for a long, long time. I recommend this book to those who enjoy "losing themselves" in a good story, and especially to those who like horses, ranches and the American West.

A great book that reminds us of the vitality of the myths of the old west. I recommend it to anyone interested in history and Native American lore. Rodeo fans will enjoy this book.
