This is part of the SWEET VALLEY series of books for tweens and teens.

Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield are 17 year old twins living in Southern California. Their father has arranged summer jobs for them at the local newspaper to Elizabeth's delight and Jessica's dispare. Elizabeth, the more serious of the two is interested in a career in journalism while Jessica is interested in having a good time, something that a job seriously interfers with. Her interest in work increases when another teenaged girl begins work at the paper, one who takes an instant liking to Jessica and a dislike to Liz. The rivalry is intensified by the addition of a cute teenaged boy working next door.

In addition to being part of a long running series of SWEET VALLEY HIGH this is also the second of a three book arc of 'super thrillers' that began with DOUBLE JEOPARDY describing the summer between the girls' Junior and Senior years. Although ONE THE RUN picks shortly after, and refers to the events of DOUBLE JEOPARDY, this novel can be enjoyed without reading the previous book, or any others in the series for that matter.

The various Sweet Valley series of books begins tracing the lives of the Wakefield twins as grade school children, through Middle School, High School and beyond. The reading level for the High School books is 6th grade and the interest level is 12 and up, making this series a great way to encourage a reluctant reader.
