Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8-This easy-to-read title is as inspirational as it is informational. It is more than just an athlete's biography; it is the story of a cancer survivor who came back to win the 1999 Tour de France. Readers will find themselves completely awed by the modesty, dedication, humility, strength, and courage of this young man. The full-color action photographs will transport them to bicycle races in various locales around the world. There are also shots of Armstrong with David Letterman (from his appearance on the Late Show), President Clinton, and family and fans. A two-page "Brief History of Cycling" is included. A good addition for most libraries.

From Booklist

Armstrong's awe-inspiring story gets satisfactory treatment in this brief, well-illustrated biography. Focusing throughout on the relationships that have helped sustain Armstrong, particularly those with his wife and mother, the book begins with the athlete's early training as a Texas high-school student, moves through his conquering the European cycling scene (including a brief boxed spread on the history of cycling), his years of illness, and his triumphant, almost miraculous recovery from testicular cancer before going on to win the 1999 Tour de France. Written by a former sports columnist and veteran biographer, the breezy text is filled with action and information to please cycling enthusiasts. Feature boxes with details about Armstrong's personal favorites (hobbies, foods, etc.) and well-reproduced color photographs appear on nearly every page and will entertain the athlete's fans. A good choice for reluctant readers. Gillian Engberg

5.0 out of 5 stars book review for Sweet Victoy, May 2, 2005
A Kid's Review
If you thought you knew about lance Armstrong and his biking days think again. This book tells you all about before he was biking till now and his fight through cancer.

This book will show you what Lance Armstrong had to do before what he's doing now like for example tell you about when Lance used to run and when he got involved in the triathlon and how he help his mom. You may be thinking "Lance Armstrong a mama's boy", yeah there still lot's about Lance you don't know so instead of listening to me spoil the book for you go find "Sweet Victory" in stores now.
