5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent romantic suspense, April 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Sweetcrab (Hardcover)
A very enjoyable romantic suspense novel from the early Seventies.

Here is the setup: Christina returns to her home town, after a 3 year exile, to attend her ailing, elderly aunt.
Three years ago, Cary, her lover, the younger son of a wealthy landowner, seemingly had committed theft, patricide and fled. Christina ostracized by her lover's family, abandoned by Cary and unable to face the gossip of the community leaves for a job in the States.
Her return is not a cause of celebration for the remaining family at Sweetcrab. She is accused of conspiring with the missing Cary and intent to blackmail.
So is Cary dead or alive? Where is he? What really happened that night at Sweetcrab?
Is Christina correct in believing that Cary's family is being secretive and dishonest. Can she trust Cary's cousin who is trying to romance her? Christina is an intelligent heroine who acts in a logical manner in a dangerous situation where everyone lies. Where lives have been lost due to greed and arrogance. Where love is less important than family loyalty. Truly an entertaining mystery. This author is as good as early Mary Stewart.
