5.0 out of 5 stars Sweeter Than Wine is a Tender Tale!, March 28, 2006
By Nancy Compton (Boise, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This historical novel a tender tale of love, devotion and doing what is right, even if the timing is wrong. Ethan Morrow eventually found his heart desire was already in the town that he longed to leave. Sterling Phillips found her true love was actually the man that almost destroyed the life of her beloved son, Worth. Worth was known by everyone as Sterling's brother, not her son, so when Sterling father showed up on the scene determined to raise his "son," Sterling knew she could no longer keep her secret. Would a man like Ethan Morrow still find the goodness in her if he knew her deep dark secret, or would he continue on with his life without her and her son?

This enjoyable tale is everything a good romance has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, September 26, 2006
I happened to pick up this book before the prequil (A Taste of Honey). The first couple of pages are daunting if you haven't met the Morrow family before but once I got through them I found a wonderful story.

The story of Sterling and Ethan is well written with just enough angst to keep me interested without getting into doom and gloom. I even found myself looking forward to the next chapter in the sub-story of Princess Sugarlips!

2.0 out of 5 stars Awkward writing style, July 4, 2006
By Gemma "bookworm" (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This was the first book I tried by Mittman, and I was not very impressed. The author had a very awkward writing style. It read like a first draft, not a polished novel. She kept inserting information into sentences that didn't belong. The focus of the prose kept jerking around so much until it was almost impossible to follow. I felt like I'd been dropped into the middle of the wilderness without a map or a compass and was expected to find my way out. I had to keep going back and re-reading paragraphs so that they'd make sense. And as I'm a person who likes to read classics (I read Jane Austen for pleasure), it's not a "dumb reader" problem.

I suggest you try to borrow SWEETER THAN WINE from the library, or just skip it altogether. There are better romance novels out there.
