2.0 out of 5 stars ongoing disappointment
Put yourself in my place will always be her best album and the one time height of her career. It's like she used most of her most rocking songs (and best ideas) on her first album and since that time couldn't do near as well. How she's made so many lame albums since is because most country folk like constant remakes of past country songs and a lot of slow sappy ballads...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Voice In Country Music, January 3, 2000
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
Besides the radio hits ("Mi Vida Loca", "Spilled Perfume" & "In Between Dances") this CD includes two of my three favorite Pam Tillis songs ever, the definitive version of "When You Walk in the Room" & "I Was Blown Away". All of the lesser known tunes are also strong, especially the lively title track & the sassy "Better Off Blue". I don't understand why she isn't more popular. It's hard to find a better voice in any genre of music, much less in country music alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to my crazy life!, October 18, 2001

I liked this CD the first time I played it. I was my favorite Pam Tillis CD for a very long time. There were quite a few popular singles from the CD, but the memorable songs that were not released are Matraca Berg's "Calico Plains," and "Til All The Lonely's Gone." Check out the lyrics on the insert.

Pam Tillis is talented and under-rated. A great singer and performer. Country radio is in a downward spiral because they are ignoring the truly great artists, like Pam Tillis...and also Dwight Yoakum. Every song on this album very good. "Calico Plains" is my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding nineties country album, December 23, 2003
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
I was fortunate to buy this when it was first released in the UK and included four bonus tracks (three from Put yourself in my place and one from Homeward looking angel), but the ten tracks that form the standard album would have made the purchase well worthwhile anyway.

Mi vida loca (my crazy life) became a number one country hit for Pam. It has a Tex-Mex feel to it and swings along in great style - definitely one to get your toes tapping, as is the next track, Sweetheart's dance. Next comes a brilliant ballad, Calico plains, written and first recorded by Matraca Berg. When you walk in the room is a cover of the Jackie de Shannon song that became a pop hit for the Searchers in the sixties and a number two country hit for Pam. This song is perhaps better known in Britain than America, but it's a great song anyway. The next two tracks, Spilled perfume and I was blown away, provided Pam with further country hits. Four more great songs (They don't break 'em like they used to, In between dances, Better off blue, 'Til all the lonely's gone) complete the standard album.

For fans of nineties country music, this is a truly great album - it sounds contemporary but is still obviously a country album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Career Album, July 13, 2002
By
Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
While Pam Tillis has produced a string of first-rate country singles, she doesn't always hit the mark when it comes to following through with an album's worth of first-rate material. SWEETHEART'S DANCE is one of those exceptions, however--not only is it inarguably the best album in her catalog, but remains one of the great country albums of the nineties. While her hit parade here continued('Spilled Perfume','In Between Dances',etc.), the album is filled out with equally fine material, chief among them the shuffling title track and the uptempo 'They Don't Break Em Like They Used To'. It's a creative highpoint that she's since failed to surpass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pam Album, October 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
This is an outstanding album with a great mix of ballads and up tempo songs. The hits you know and the other songs are outstanding. My only reservation is "Blown Away". It is too lightweight and childish for such a masterpiece album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pam's best, February 25, 2001
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
This is, I think, Pam's best album to date. Every song is great, from the Tex/Mex dance track "Mi Vida Loca" to beautiful ballads like "Spilled Perfume" to the cover of Jackie De Shannon's "When you walk in the room". Pam has never sounded better, and every country fan should own a copy of this album. 12 page booklet contains all lyrics and some photos of Pam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Country and Pam Tillis at her/its Best, February 12, 2001
By
"toby-3196" (West Mifflin, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweetheart's Dance (Audio CD)
This is one of the most enjoyable Country CD's I own, not to mention Pam Tillis' best outting yet, this is just great songs, on a great album where every song was a potential hit. The first release "Mi Vida Loca" raced up the chart straight to #1, then "When You Walked In The Room" which also went top 10, shows Pam getting in to the song, then "Spilled Perfume" a very worthy ballad that peaked at #11? But it also includes "I Was Blown Away" a suprise top 10 hit and finally, probably Pam Tillis' best song "In Between Dances" the CD's big winner also going to #1, this album produced 5 excellent songs, and could have been six with "Better Off Blue". Her voice on this album is also at its best. But after this album and her greatest hits album she seemed to lose some of her punch, but it is nice to see her still going.
