Book Description

November 24, 2009

"Throw a penny in the fountain of the Twilight town square, and you'll be married to your first love . . . "

For ten years, pretty Flynn MacGregor has been turning down the same solid, upright man's marriage proposal. Her friends at the Sweethearts' Knitting Club tell her they're a match made in heaven, but Flynn knows there's only one dangerous reason why she keeps saying no: high school sweetheart Jesse Calloway. She was just sixteen when Jesse was forced out of town under a cloud of suspicion . . . but he's never left her heart.

Now Jesse is back, and every time she turns the corner he's there—gazing at her with his smoldering eyes and tempting her with his kisses. Jesse has never played by the rules, and he's made it clear that he's not going to now. And Flynn, who's always done just what her family, friends, and fellow knitters have told her to do, must finally break free and claim the love that binds Jesse to her heart.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Wilde (All of Me) pays homage to The Gilmore Girls in this lighthearted romance. The small town of Twilight, Tex., is known for reuniting high school sweethearts, and when girl-next-door Flynn MacGregor finally agrees to marry straitlaced sheriff Beau Trainer, she thinks she's settling down with her first love. Then Flynn's old flame Jesse Calloway rolls in, fresh from 10 years in prison, and rekindles chemistry that time and circumstances had not erased. As Flynn struggles to stop mothering everyone around her, Jesse helps her realize her highly controlled life has not been so different from his in prison. Full of colorful characters, pleasant descriptions and sexual tension, this romance is slow to get started and overloaded with campy Southern charm, but once it gains momentum it's as satisfying as a glass of lemonade on a hot day. Review

“Delicious details, a small town full of memorable characters, great dialogue, and humor all combine to make this a highly enjoyable tale about two people who find healing--and each other.” (Booklist (starred review) on All of Me )

Lori Wilde has created a rich and wonderful story about the charm of small town life combined with the power and passion of first love. Delicious! (New York Times Bestselling author Robyn Carr )

“[T]heir personal development forms the heart and soul of the novel, a delicately revealing in-depth character study. Wilde’s clever combination of humor, sorrow and love brings a deeply appealing sense of realism.” (Publishers Weekly on All of Me )

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner., December 20, 2009

This review is from: The Sweethearts' Knitting Club (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been a fan of Lori Wilde's for a while now so it was with much anticipation that I read this book. The Sweetheart's Knitting club has all the ingredients for a great romance (for me) : the reunion, the second-chance at love, the small town setting, the lovable characters and the great writing that just wraps all those elements up together perfectly.
Jesse (the supposedly bad boy) and Flynn (the good girl) are impossible not to love. My heart literally broke for them. I wondered, before reading it, how the author would manage to deal with the 10-years-in-prison convict but her story really worked for me. It's exactly the kind of book that made me read romances in the first place. You'll finish it with a big smile on your face... and addicted as well ! No worries though, it is part of a series. Can't hardly wait to read the others (the cookie club one in particular) !

1.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly weak offering from Lori Wilde, January 4, 2010

This review is from: The Sweethearts' Knitting Club (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a big fan of Lori Wilde and especially admired her wonderful Wedding Veil Wishes series. So it pains me to say that this book was almost unrecognizable as one of Lori's books. I kept waiting for this boring book to get better and unfortunately, it never did. It was almost a complete waste of my time.

It started out with promise: Flynn, the eternal good girl who never strays from the image that is expected of her and Jesse, the returning "bad" boy, who was framed for a crime he didn't commit by Flynn's jealous high school boyfriend. But when he finally hits town, it is a start and stop dance of conflicted emotions on Flynn's part. The use of the character questioning herself was completely overdone. "Why does he make me feel this way? What should I do about it?" Blah, blah, frickin' blah! This is throughout the whole book! Flynn only commits herself to Jesse in the last pages and I never really felt any chemistry between the two.

It is ridiculously obvious that the "perfect" sheriff is really psychotic and the cause of all the trouble, yet his fate for being responsible for illegal activity is never resolved! For an author who wrote some of the best thriller romances such as "You Only Love Twice," the "suspense" part of the book was utterly weak. I can't figure out if the intention was to be obvious or what, but it didn't work.

I think there were too many storylines thrown in here and everything was muddled into a knotted mess. The writing was shockingly bad. I'm not sure what direction Lori is taking, but I sure don't like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking, November 24, 2009
This review is from: The Sweethearts' Knitting Club (Mass Market Paperback)
At first I thought this was going to be about a bunch of old ladies sitting in a circle knitting. True, there are old ladies and knitting involved but that is just a piece of the story. Flynn is not old and she doesn't know how to knit. Beau is her fiance, and he does not knit either. Jesse is an ex-con and Flynn's true love and trust me, knitting is not how he passed the time in prison.

I found myself drawn to the romance between Flynn and Jesse. I thought Beau was a pushy cop who thought he could have whatever he wanted. He is constantly pushing Flynn to marry him and always backing her in a corner. I wanted to jump in the book and knock the crap out of him. Jesse was a pure Southern gentleman who may have been recently released from prison, but wanted to make a fresh start with Flynn. Whenever Jesse's dialogue came up, I could just picture him in my head with his southern accent.

When a writer can describe a character with just what he is speaking, you know you have a new Bestselling Author! The author kept me glued to the pages, consumed by the passion and story that I never wanted it to end. It flowed great and was detailed perfectly.

A new author for me that I will keep an eye on for new releases. Once again, BREATHTAKING!
