Brief stardom for rocking country sisters,
By
This review is from: Sweethearts of the Rodeo/One Time, One Night (Audio CD)
Janis and Kristine Oliver began singing as a duo in 1973 but it was not until 1986 that they hit big. Though their music was firmly rooted in tradition, they managed to give it enough of a contemporary edge so that they could appeal to a wider audience. Back then, Janis was married to Vince Gill. By the time that Vince reached his own peak, the Sweethearts of the rodeo were already past their commercial peak, though they continued to record excellent albums. This twofer covers their peak commercial years, including all their hits. Their biggest hits were Since I found you, Midnight girl sunset town, Satisfy you, Blue to the bone and a sensational cover of the Beatles classic I feel fine. The other tracks here include many fine original songs, plus a cover of the Everly Brothers classic, So sad to watch good love go bad. Janis and Kristine could sing ballads, but what they really liked to do was rock. This is good time country music at its best.

Sweethearts of the Rodeo is a truly excellenty performed, and produced album. Janice Gill (Country great Vince Gill's wife) is supurb, and Kristine Arnold helps out all the way, and she does it great. There are eight tracks on this CD, and seven of them could make it on their own. This is a well put together, well produced, and well recorded album. In short, this is great. If you like country, you'll love this. BTW: Anybody out there in country land know what Sweethearts of the Rodeo actually mean? Lets see how many real Country folk we have out there. Give us some feedback. Christopher L. Ford.

When I sent for this CD, I expected to have a bit of nostalgia for the good-old-days, but I wasn't really sure that I would enjoy the music. Needless to say, it's great for old fans like me and for new fans who may not have heard their harmonies. If you like music, you'll love this CD.

Sweethearts Of Country Music,

The Sweethearts Of The Rodeo are definitely sweethearts of country nusic. These 2 ladys (sisters) can really sing their heart out and the harmony blend on their singing is sensational. Their music sounds like the country music of the early 60's to early 70's. "Midnight Girl/Sunset Town" reminds me of a night down south in a small town. "Hey Doll Baby" has a rock-a-billy sound to it. Other good songs are "Since I Found You", "Chains Of Gold", "Satisfy You", "Blue To The Bone", a classic 60's song sound, The Beatles classic, "I Feel Fine", which they do a great job on. This is a very good buy. 2 LP's on 1 CD. The Sweethearts Of The Rodeo may be out of country music but their music lives on forever.

I bought this CD beacuse I had a hard time finding their classic country songs anywhere else. Janice Gill and Krisitine Arnold bring a beautiful harmony and rhythm to their songs.

I'm not much of a Country music fan anymore, but this is good stuff. Great harmonizing. Worth the purchase price for their first album's worth of material...not a bad song on it.

I used to own an old cassette of theirs and played it untill it fell apart. I had looked in stores over the years for a CD and could never find one, untill now! I love listening to their songs, they have a wonderful sound.

Basically bought it for the song "Midnight Girl/Sunset Town". Has some other good song, but would have rather just been able to download the one song.
