A Web Of Deception,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sweetwater Sinners: the sequel to Holy Hustler (Paperback)
SWEETWATER SINNERS takes the reader on a tumultuous journey of trickery, deception, lies and back-stabbing within the esteemed Goodlove family. Theola Goodlove, the renowned First Lady of Sweetwater PG Church, seemingly lives a double life and wears many hats -- not all in the name of the Lord. Will she ultimately reap what she sows? Will her sins come to light?
Pastor Ethan Goodlove waxes poetic in the pulpit and captivates his congregation. After nearly dying in the very same pulpit, he emerges a new and meaner man. Will he sell his soul to the devil to exact revenge on those who have wronged him? Even his own flesh and blood? Damien Goodlove is a proclaimed ladies' man, but messes with the wrong woman. Will he lose his life as a result of his deception? Will his ex-wife, Michelle, make him pay for the wrong he has done? Ms. Wilson is an awesome writer who knows how to enthrall the reader from the beginning to the end. Some grammatical errors are noted throughout the book, but the storyline is excellent. The ending is a bit vague and could have been enhanced. Ms. Wilson definitely has the potential to go from good to great! Reviewed by Marcia Brevard Wynn for The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

Sinners Are Welcome,
This review is from: Sweetwater Sinners: the sequel to Holy Hustler (Paperback)
Just when you think things have calmed down at Sweetwater Powerhouse of God, things get worse. While Reverend Goodlove is giving an electrifying sermon, he passes out on the pulpit and goes into a coma. With their leadership in question due to the Reverend's illness, the church becomes a modern version of Sodom and Gomorrah. First Lady Theola thinks she has a free pass to do anything and anyone she wants. Soon she realizes that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Goodlove's oldest son, Damien, is trying to prolong his divorce ever since he has found out that his not-so-soon to be ex-wife Michelle just might become a millionaire. Now, if you read Holy Hustler (the first book), you know that Michelle was in a heap of trouble. If Damien does not watch his back, Michelle might be more determined to follow through this time around. With all of this is going on, Reginald is trying to figure out a way to come back home. And last but not least, Barry thinks that he now has a drama-free life since Sissy is gone. Well, he thinks she's gone, but soon he'll realize that she never left. With Reverend Goodlove in the hospital fighting for his life, there's still some hustlin' going on in Sweetwater, but who's committing the biggest sin?
Although not as great as its predecessor, Sweetwater Sinners by P. L. Wilson was still a good read. Sweetwater Sinners starts off as a slow read. I thought the book would leave off right where Holy Hustler ended, but it did not. You will have to continue reading to get to how both books tie into one another. After a few chapters, the book does pick up, and you're instantly intrigued to find out what's going to happen next with each character. The author does a good job with keeping you interested with the drama that goes on. If you get through the slow start and continue to read, Sweetwater Sinners becomes a book you don't want to put down. I do recommend you read Holy Hustler first so that you'll know a little background on each character. Reviewed by Jackie for Urban Reviews

I loved this book!!! Sweetwater Sinners was filled with a lot of drama and a lot of action. If you've read Holy Hustler you have got to read this one. It was a real page turner, she gave you just enough to make you want more at the end of each chapter. I had to make myself stop reading because I was going over on my lunch breaks and pull myself away at night so that I could go to sleep. Sweetwater Sinners was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!

Ok, what is in the izzell is going on here? Everyone in this book is going mad!
Pastor Goodlove has finally revamped himself, family and church family for the better after everyone and thing started to go haywire in Part I. Unfortunately, after preaching one of his boat rocking sermons, he passes out and slips into a `coma'. From that point all the positive steps taken to reach their revitalization has backtracked so far, only the Lord himself can deliver them all. Theolia: Let us be real, anything can be expected from Theolia. She was hardly anything close to be being a First Lady when the pastor was well, how do you think she will act now that he is in ill? Barry: Sissy may same to be out of the picture for now, but Amy, Barry's innocent fiancée, seems to have picked up from where Sissy left off, making Barry's life a living hell. And just as before, instead of sticking up for himself, Barry continues rolls over and plays possum. Damien: This fool seems to have no morals or conscience. After refusing to sign the divorce papers for so long, he has a revelation after Pastor takes ill and finally decides to give in. However, he gets wind of Michelle coming good fortune and feels that he is `entitle' to his fair share despite all the pain and embarrassment that he has caused her. In addition, he surprises us by actually thinking of settling with one person who on top of that is a complete opposite of what he usually goes for. Nevertheless, that does not last long as a distasteful blast from the past returns to take what she thinks belongs to her and stirs the already smoldering hot pot some more. And as if he does not need help himself, he decides to give help to another and based on his horrible decisions in life we imagine how that plays out. Michelle: For the strong woman she played in part I, she has just lost it all: her mind, dignity and most importantly her common sense. I am most shocked and appalled by the downfall of her character morals and standards. It is understandable how she would flip on her husband after everything, especially realizing that she is now on the other end of her friend's conversations, but after giving a second chance at life, let it go! But no, not Michelle, she wants and is obsessed with death. Plus to make it worst, now that he knows and wants some of her good fortune, Michelle is even more determined to risk her freedom and children's happiness. Overall, it was a fun read. I still think part one was better but still looking forward to part three. |
