More About the Author

I'm a multi-published romance/women's fiction author for Harlequin/Silhouette and Red Dress Ink who loves to write about real people dealing with the drama (and humor) of everyday life. I've been a voracious reader since I was four, still manage to read a book or two a week despite having five sons and a full-time writing career.

My 'reviews' are more 'recommendations', since I don't post reviews about books that don't ring my chimes. I tend to be drawn to women's fiction and mainstream family drama most often, with some mysteries tossed in for balance. For a book to 'work' for me, I have to find the characters appealing and believeable; the prose must be compelling and well-crafted; and it doesn't hurt if there's a good dollop of humor somewhere along the line.

Fave authors include Jeanne Ray, Terry McMillan, Anne Tyler, Janet Evanovitch, Curtiss Ann Matlock, Marsha Moyers, Marion Keyes, Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Crusie, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Farmer Meets a Ballerina, August 10, 2010
This review is from: Swept Away: The Men of Mayes County (Silhouette Intimate Moments No. 1357) (Mass Market Paperback)
Karen Templeton's SWEPT AWAY is the 5th book in The Men of Mayes County series. I wasn't aware of this when I started reading it and the story was fine as a read-alone book. The twister to this was I LOVED this book and want to meet the other characters so I am going back to find the others: Saving Dr. Ryan #1, Fathers and Strangers #2, Staking His Claim #3, Everybody's Hero #4, and A Husband's Watch #6. I am amazed how good this was; it is rare for me to give a Silhouette or Harlequin five stars. Hey, I am stingy with five stars all the time but I am eager to see if the other books in this series are just as good.

SWEPT AWAY is an engaging story of two fascinating people finding their way to be happy together. Two more different characters you couldn't meet; at 37, Carly is an only child, has never been married, has no kids, and was a professional ballerina until she was injured. Sam is a widower, a farmer and has six, yes, SIX children. To say that Carly isn't scared of this big family is an understatement.

Now, maybe it is because I am one of six kids and spent some wonderful vacations at my aunt and uncle's farm but I felt very much at home when reading their story. Some will think this book is too sugary-sweet but if you are looking for a romance that is a bit different the book is a smooth read. I finished it in a day.

There are some great secondary characters and romances and I found age wasn't a big factor. If you are deterred about reading a romance with kids or if you insist that your hero and heroine are perfect looking or young then this is not your cup of tea. But if you enjoy some good chemistry, humor, and some quoteable conversation this warm and witty romance is for you. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Funny -- Very Good Read, January 9, 2006

This review is from: Swept Away: The Men of Mayes County (Silhouette Intimate Moments No. 1357) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was well-written, sweet, funny, and heartwarming. The characters came alive with great dialouge. The conversations flowed and weren't canned -- they was witty and believable -- showing the innocence of a 4-year-old little boy, the teen angst of a 14-going-on-30 teenage girl, and the basic power of attraction that is generated by a man with high values of honestly and integrity... even when that man has six kids, which would quite logically scare any woman away. In some books that have opposites attract... you never quite get the attraction. Here you feel that Sam and Carly are ultimately meant to be.
