4.0 out of 5 stars The title track alone justifies your purchase, March 2, 1999
This review is from: Swept (Audio CD)
As a songwriter, Julia is more of a photographer than a journalist.....she captures the essence of a particular feeling at a moment in time, melding together lyrics, melody, arrangement, and production to create a singular effect (or snapshot). At her best, this creates some wonderfully intense music. 'Swept' is a good album, but years later I'm drawn back chiefly to the hypnotic title track.....remembering what it felt like to be swept up in a new romance. Pop music doesn't get any more evocative than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Voice from Heaven, August 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Swept (Audio CD)
Why this woman is not a major star confounds me. Her writing and mostly HER VOICE is so incredible! This is an artist who you will listen to over and over again. Even when the material is average, the voice is so powerful and emotional, you just can't lose.

Her record company should have her do an album of standards -- I can't even imagine what she would do to a song like "At Last" or "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."

Any of her albums would also make a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and unique vocals, moving lyrics, May 17, 1998

This review is from: Swept (Audio CD)
Julia Fordham is not the most well known artist in the United States but is one of the most unique and talented. Her range and unique voice makes her distinctive, as does her romantic lyrics and smooth jazzy instrumentals. After a friend introduced me to her in the late 80's I was hooked and scoured the music stores for hopes of a new release. After seeing her in concert in a small intimate setting, all other performances I had seen and paid much more money to see paled in comparison. Julia is the greatest! Buy all her CD's; you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Julia is a Jewel, September 18, 2005

Julia has been around for many years and here in Cali she keeps a loyal following - seeing her in concert is a MUST!!! She has an absolutely lovely, timeless, honey voice with incredible range, depth and purity.......beyond that she is totally charming, down to earth and entertaining - But mostly she is a phenomenal talent everyone deserves to hear......you will never be dissapointed in any of her CD's this one is very mellow and emotional but there are others which are a bit more upbeat too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, Intriguing, from the heart, June 23, 2004
This review is from: Swept (Audio CD)
If you don't know Julia Fordham then you are missing out on one of the greatest musical experiences in life. If I had to choose only one artist to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Julia Fordham. Her range, her unique voice, her soulful interpretations of feelings that we have all had bring out who I am inside. Check out her works from the begining: Julia Fordham, Porcelain, Swept...on to Falling Forward, East West, Concrete Love....her style has changed a bit since the late 80's, when we were first introduced to her, but she's still Julia.

One of the most underrated CD's in the last 10 years. Give a listen to tunes like, "I Thought It Was You" or "Scared Me". A truly moving experience listening to this album.
