5.0 out of 5 stars really is "sweet"!
This litter does everything you and your cat want it to: absorbent of wet and smell, softly clumping, and flushable! It really does smell like wheat. The clumps form in about a minute, but will harden and stick to the bottom of the box if you don't remove every day--incentive to keep the box clean every day. Baking soda layered on the bottom of the box will help this. The...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware the Meal Bugs - Forever!
Because this litter is a wheat product, it attracts meal bugs. My bag actually came with the bugs in it - when I opened the bag, left it in the bathroom, and came back a few hours later, the bugs were crawling out of the bag and up the wall. I have done everything to eliminate the bugs. Naturally I disposed of every crumb of Swheat Scoop. But once you have these in your...

The litter is flushable because there are no cement compounds in this litter--important because they can harm your cat by lodging in the digestive track as they groom themselves.

Because this litter is a wheat product, it attracts meal bugs. I have done everything to eliminate the bugs. Naturally I disposed of every crumb of Swheat Scoop. But once you have these in your house, it is very difficult to get rid of them permanently, due to the life cycle of meal bugs. You think you've eliminated them, and then a few months later, they're back. Do not buy this product, even if you think it works great as a cat litter. You run the risk of being plagued by bugs forever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good litter but not good for clumping urine, October 22, 2005
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
I just switched to this brand about 2 weeks ago.
Pros: Light smell, really does smell like wheat. Inexpensive and can be found at Target, etc. Two cats adapted to the new litter within hours. Healthy for cats.
Cons: I've found that it does not clump well for pee! Urine often is clumped to the bottom and sides of the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars bay leaves stop the bugs, October 23, 2007

I've been using Swheat Scoop for years - switched from World's Best(which, alas, had too much dust for me. Swheat Scoop is fine with the cats and doesn't get tracked around as much as some other brands.

There is a problem with food moth and other bug infestations in our now hotter summers. Cure: crumple up a few bay leaves in the open litter tray and pop a few in the bag of unused litter. This also works to protect your herbs, dried beans, grains, etc.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUGS BUGS BUGS, September 17, 2008
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
I tried and tried to like this product, as I despise the clay based toxicity of most kitty litters, but there is one "con" that outweighs every "pro": BUGS. The first time I noticed what I believe are called wheat weevils, I threw away the litter in the pans and the fresh litter sealed in an airtight container, and cleaned EVERYTHING. I purchased new Swheat Scoop and, weeks later, past what should have been the next egg hatching cycle, I found what looked like millions of the bugs in a fresh box. They clearly are Trojan Horsing themselves into my life via the factory. I CANNOT get rid of them. I am having to have an exterminator come to my house and the company says I have to throw away all the grains in my home on top of it all. I have switched to a non-food based litter. I know that the invasion of these bugs is wholly due to chance, but I would like to warn those considering the purchase of Swheat Scoop: there IS a chance these bugs will move in and they will do everything in their power to stay.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Worst EVER!, February 3, 2008

Okay, my cat of 15 years just died, have one remaining cat that i want to do the best for decided to go with this product as opposed to clay which may have been part of the reason for my other cat's health problems. This product not only does NOT CLUMP, after one pee in the new litter, the entire litter smells of urine! Now if you have cats you know that they are clean animals , and more than not, will NOT USE THE BOX if it smells and isn't clean.Really wish i had saved the boxes, [..] Also, threw out the other litter!!!! This is a mess, i guess i have to go back to clay until something good comes out!!!!!AWFUL PRODUCT will def be calling company in the morning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Litter EVER, January 8, 2012
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
I have been using Swheat Scoop for 6 years and absolutely love it. I have one cat (that uses a litter box, the other uses the tub and had for years before I got her.) Not only does it control odors very well (I don't add anything to it to help) but it clumps nicely for scooping. The best parts are that I don't get a face full of choking clay dust when I change the litter and it is flushable! My second litter box is a Cat Genie (which I also love) so I only have to clean the upstairs box every 3 to 5 days (at the first whiff of an odor) but I just flush it away (it takes about 5 flushes for one whole litter box worth because you have to do it in small increments.) I see in other reviews that some have had bug issues, in 6 years I have not seen one bug of any kind. They also have a rewards program that is great... buy 12 bags and get one free, plus they send you a few coupons for a $1 off at the same time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alas, meal bugs, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
I loved this product--I thought the smell was very decent and I liked the idea that I was doing something good for the environment. Today I saw my first mealbug. I read what everyone else said and since I am going away for a few days, I did not dare wait to see what happened. I threw it all away and the litter box, too. It breaks my heart to be so wasteful. I am trying World's Best Cat Litter and I don't like it much, so for now it's back to good ol', bad ol' clay. If I can figure out how to avoid the meal bugs--and it would have to be totally, I do not like bug infestations--I may try it again. Too bad about the meal bugs, because otherwise I quite liked it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great litter but prepare for bugs, December 20, 2011
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
Started using this litter regularly about 6 months ago. Love that it's natural and keeps the litter area smelling fresh. However our apartment has been infiltrated with little bugs, and they are definitely attracted to the wheat litter. Now they are in the kitchen too. The exterminator has to come and I'm just hoping we won't be dealing with this for months down the road. I'm switching back to bug-free litter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic - wouldn't use another litter, November 4, 2011
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Natural Cat Litter (Misc.)
Interesting to read the other reviews - especially the ones that comment about the bugs. We've been using Swheat Scoop since we adopted our cat in May of 2010 and haven't had a single problem with it. There is only one local retailer that carries it and only in box form. Maybe the bags can be infiltrated more easily by the bugs? Maybe it's the timing of maufacture and the environmental conditions at the factory or warehouse, and maybe its the location of the end-use litterbox and environmental conditions of the space? Or any combination of aforementioned possibilities... or I'm way off. Regarless, observations noted and I will look for problems in future batches - I'll make sure to add bay leaves as noted by another reviewer.

I certainly won't plan on changing anytime soon, however, even with the chance of bugs. This stuff is wonderful. Grew up with cats and volunteered at a shelter. Will never buy clay again - the dust is awful and the fragrance even worse. After several years of keeping their cat's box in a storage room, my parents found there was a layer of light, perfumy dust on EVERYTHING when they pulled the boxes and began sorting items for a rummage sale. Just think about that getting circulated around the house! They did try another natural litter after my experience with Swheat Scoop and ended up switching a short time later to this brand and are very glad they did. It only sticks to the bottom when the level starts to get low - so I add more and its fine again. I try to scoop something every other day - may be a few days in between if life gets busy, but there is still not that much odor. It clumps nicely; however, I try to scoop when I know my cat hasn't used the box in a while just to make sure that the clumps have time to set up. Never had a problem otherwise. Flushing can sometimes be a problem if I get impatient and overload the bowl and then fail to let it soak and soften for a few minutes. But this particular toilet has issues, too.

Bottom Line: Love this stuff, so do my parents; we'd recommend to anyone.
