Great litter - No more dust or chemical smell!,
By
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
After not having a cat for two years, we now have three! I keep the older cats out in the garage and the baby's in a closet in the guest room. Right away with the previous scoopable litters I noticed such a strong chemical smell. Yuck! If it wasn't good for me to smell, it sure wasn't good for the cats. Swheat scoop seemed to be the closest in texture to the old litter, so I thought I'd give it a try. Initially, the older cats were a bit hesitant to change, but they never went outside their litter box and quickly got over it.
The litter scoops very well as long as you let the urine sit for a bit after they use it. I like to scoop the older cats litter at least once a day. The litter in the house does get scooped more often, but I could probably get away with once if I needed to. I wouldn't leave it less. DO keep a deep layer of litter in the box. It will last for up to a month, though I like to empty it and clean out the litter box every week or so and then you can re-fill it with the old litter. The only thing I don't like is that when the cat pees in the corner of the litter box, sometimes it does stick to the sides and doesn't clump properly. That's the main reason for cleaning out the box. I'm just picky that way. Also, they do tend to track it outside the box, so I have some mats outside the boxes. It doesn't make it into the house, and taking a vacuum to these rugs occaisionally easily takes care of it. I've been using this litter for about six monthes and absolutely recommend it. I wish I would have used it with my previous cat that I had for 18 years. Aside from the type of litter, I also believe in keeping one litter box per cat. I actually use the big rubbermaid storage bins for the older cats!

For a guinea pig,
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
I bought this after being told most cat litters were bad for guinea pigs[actually I emailed a bunch of companies]. Not only did my vet give it the ok but my guinea pig likes it. He will never be 'perfect' at using his corner box but he likes to dig in this litter and lay in it. No dust, no smell, no big problems. It won't make him sick if he eats it and it won't cause bad news for his digestive tract. Not to mention I can buy 25 lbs of it and it lasts for 2 months!
I'm not sure how this works as a cat owner but as a guinea pig owner, I have nothing but good things to say.

THE BEST C AT LITTER EVER,

I LOVE IT...was expecting to cash in on my "guarantee" BUT HAPPILY WON'T NEED TO, as it's not at all like another sorry excuse for a "natural" litter....
this clumps AS GOOD AS the other clumping NON-FLUSHABLE litters, and yet, it CAN BE FLUSHED.... MY CATS LOVED IT AND HAD NO PROBLEM USING IT...

Best Litter Ever,

This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
I have 2 neutered male cats who use the litterbox multiple times a day. This litter is the best, I have tried almost all the other clay clumping litters out there and they are horrible. There is no smell with this as long as you scoop it out. Clay litters have a smell to them even when they are brand new, but this doesn't. I do not try to flush it so I don't know how well it flushes, but I will never use clay litter again.

BUGS BUGS BUGS,
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
I tried and tried to like this product, as I despise the clay based toxicity of most kitty litters, but there is one "con" that outweighs every "pro": BUGS. The first time I noticed what I believe are called wheat weevils, I threw away the litter in the pans and the fresh litter sealed in an airtight container, and cleaned EVERYTHING. I purchased new Swheat Scoop and, weeks later, past what should have been the next egg hatching cycle, I found what looked like millions of the bugs in a fresh box. They clearly are Trojan Horsing themselves into my life via the factory. I CANNOT get rid of them. I am having to have an exterminator come to my house and the company says I have to throw away all the grains in my home on top of it all. I have switched to a non-food based litter. I know that the invasion of these bugs is wholly due to chance, but I would like to warn those considering the purchase of Swheat Scoop: there IS a chance these bugs will move in and they will do everything in their power to stay.

Great for small animals, not so great for cats,

This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
I love this product for rabbits or small animals. When I tried it in the cats litter box it didn't soak up fast enough and my cats would end up with wet feet sometimes. ended up having to change the litter more often.

This litter is HORRIBLE for odor control!,

I love finding products for natural and holistic care for my cats. I was worried about chemicals in my cats' litter, so I decided to try this stuff. Unlike the Feline Pine, my cats had no trouble adjusting to this litter, so I was very happy. The texture is a lot closer to that of conventional clumping litter, so there was no adjustment period. However, when I scoop the boxes, there is an incredibly strong ammonia scent. I cannot state this strongly enough! We have three cats and two boxes, which they use pretty evenly, and I scoop about every other day. Even more frequent scooping still results in an overpowering scent of ammonia. I am switching back to Arm and Hammer litter tomorrow!

Bugs Bugs Bugs!,

I purchased a Swheat Scoop Natural Wheat Litter bag at PETCO, but did not noticed initially that it had bugs I believe are called wheat weevils. They are reddish and are flea-like and when I was replacing some used litter, I scooped out some new litter and noticed all these bugs were trying to bore themselves into the litter. I was so disgusted! NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY WHEAT LITTER FOR MY CAT! I will now have to check to see if they traveled on my cat to areas like the mattress.

Swheat Scoop is Awesome!,

I love this stuff and my cat loves it. It may track a little and it can stick to the box-although if you spray the box w/ cooking spray this won't happen. Also the mealworm issue can happen w/ any food or food based product so you can only remove the risk of getting mealworms if you remove all food products-especially grain based items from your home. I still think that because it's flushable, biodegradable and better for the environment-including it's packaging it's a better choice.

Great Concept But it Doesn't Clump,
By
This review is from: Swheat Scoop Wheat Litter - Ss25-860275 - Bci (Misc.)
I'm thrilled that companies are coming out with natural litter products (as I was very concerned about the chemical clay stuff I had been using for my cat all of these years). I bought some of the Feline Pine (which I absolutely LOVE), but the Feline Pine original does not clump, so I bought the Swheat Scoop as a supplement to add a little clumping power to my Feline Pine. I was disappointed, as the Swheat does not clump at all. I'm glad that I that I didn't buy the Swheat product alone, as I wouldn't have been happy with my purchase. I prefer the Feline Pine because there's no dust and mess to have to sweep up all the time. Swheat is a great concept if it really clumped like it is supposed to. I would still prefer the Swheat over that chemical stuff I had been using in the past.
