Bought this thinking that I would save myself a little money rather than getting the GE brand MWF filter. I had read some other reviews that warned, but I'd also read positive reviews too. I decided to take my chances and now I'm super sorry I did. I installed it with no problem and ran the first 8-10 gallons fine. Then something must have come out of the filter to jam my line because it stopped working. Have had the fridge with no problems for 6 yrs and then suddenly within an hour of installing an off-brand filter it stops working? I called Swift's customer service and while Kevin Kreuger was very nice about it he clearly had no idea what he was talking about and assumed I didn't either. He told me he'd check with his engineers but that he was sure it was a problem with my fridge. He did what he said and talked to his engineers but gave me the same advice again to have my fridge serviced as he was sure it must be my fridge. As of today I am still getting water out of my kitchen sink instead of nice filtered water from my fridge and maintain that the timing was a little too perfect for it to be my refrigerator's problem.

Bottom Line: Unless you have money to spare on a risk, which I doubt because you wouldn't waste your time looking for an alternative to the name-brand if you did, don't buy this and risk the headache of losing your fridge water function!

Received the SGF-G9 as pictured which evidently replaces the G1 even though product description says SGF-G1. Filter came sealed in plastic. Filtration ratings are exactly the same for both products. Filled with water & soaked as instructed & filter went in with no problem although did have to push up on the filter rather firmly to get it to go in & had a small bit of spillage from the filled filter as it went in and was turned, but no leaks after turning & sealed. Good flow & mine had no loose carbon dust evident during soaking or initial 1 gallon purge. Water is good. Really like the fact of green environmental manufacture process (hope it's true & not hype!!). Great pricing on this compared to the GE MWF filter it replaced. Noticed the same company (Global Shop Stop) also offers the SGF-G1 with correct SGF-G1 picture for $1 cheaper...old stock?

I had issues like everyone else getting the filter started but once I got it going, it's just as good as the original MWF name-brand. I tried following the instructions as directed at first multiple times and finally gave up. I left it to soak over night not expecting much....but the next morning I tried it again....and it magically worked!! The last time I did pay extra attention to the force I placed when pushing it up prior to turning it. Maybe that created more of a seal. Or maybe the ultra long soak is what did it for me. I would buy this again though...well worth the savings!

Fits perfectly in my GE Hotpoint fridge at about half the cost of the name brand filter. No adapter needed to replace my MWF filter.

Read the reviews and thought I would give it a try. No matter how much I tried I could not get the filter to seal in. Had to order GE MWF anyway.

So what all these reviews tell me is that you are going to install this filter and it will work fine or it won't. You either 5 star the rating or 1 star it. I think that says a lot about the product. If one in four or five of these filters are no good, will you actually end up saving money? As for the folks who get excited about "green", I can't say that any thing with the obvious fail rate of this product is doing anything to reduce the production of trash. Will soak it overnight to see if I can salvage this thing, but that will not change my rating. This is the second off brand MWF filter, and the second fail. I guess you can't save money some places.

Did not work at all, water passed thru in a dribble. Checked all the instructions and it was the correct spec for the fridge so no idea what went wrong
