Heart-felt renditions in a powerful, clear voice,
By A Customer
This review is from: Swim Away (Audio CD)
Though a recording cannot deliver music as powerfully as live performance, Toni's "Swim Away" album comes as close as I've heard. From the raucous "Throw Me a Bone" and "Twelve Bar Blues" to the plaintive title track, Toni delivers her heart and soul on a platter for anyone who listens. The words and the way this woman sings them is a rare treat!

You ought to buy this CD. Classic Texas blues/folk/rock sound. Great players from the Austin scene, excellent songwriting, excellent production, and Toni KILLS! This is the real thing.

I was lucky enough to see see Toni Price at Antone's Home of the Blues in Austin. She showed up in red cowboy boots, a yellow mini-skirt, a black shirt, and a cowboy hat; she got to the mike and took over the room. Took it OVER. This record is as close to that night as I can get, and I treasure it.

Austin's finest,

The songs are great. The players on this CD (particularly guitarists) are a who's who of Austin greats, given room to shine while never overwhelming the songs or Toni. Then there's Toni herself, one of the great rootsy singers anywhere.
It's hard to recommend this highly enough to anyone who enjoys blues/country/folk music, killer guitar playing (Jr Brown, David Grissom, Doyle Bramhall, etc), great singing. This CD is a total gem and an amazing debut. I just heard she's moved to San Diego. What a loss for Austin. She was reason enough to go to Austin on a Tuesday for years.

Toni Price has been playing to packed houses at the Continental Club in Austin,Texas for years. If you've never heard her, you should. It may not match getting to see her in person in a smoke filled bar where the crowd stands to watch her and offers to buy her drinks, but if it's the closest you can get to it, it's worth it. Buy this album.
