5.0 out of 5 stars "Must have" pool toy!
My 5- and 6-year old kids love this toy...heck, *I* love this toy. It really zooms in the water and is a lot of fun. My kids are beginner swimmers and they really enjoy swimming after the toypedo and diving for it after it runs its course. In doing so, they've improved their swimming skills!

1.0 out of 5 stars Would make a good weapon
I bought this toy for my Grand Kids to play with in the pool. After receiving it and seeing how much weighed and the unpredictable path it would take each time I threw in the pool, I took it out and away from the pool. This toy could cause a serious injury to a child or an adult.

This toy moves through water like a paper airplane. It really seems to defy water resistance. Everyone I know has learned to holds their breath for record times while watching it "fly" accross the pool. One word of warning though, it sinks! So don't take it to the lake.

On a recent trip to Hawaii my children became friends with a child who had this toy. They played in the pool for hours everyday with this toy. Because it's all in one piece there's no change of it getting broken when traveling. When we got back I had to get one for ourselves! One child would throw it and the others would dive for it. The hours they entertained themselves with this makes it priceless!

I know the "Toypedo" from previous use so I know that it is a great fun toy.

My complaint is that the image on the website shows something that looks like "Shamu" (We live near SeaWorld so we "know" the killer whales pretty well) I expected the kids to be thrilled to have their own mini-Orca in the pool. So I was a bit disappointed to receive a basic "Original Toypedo" that has a blue/orange almost "camo" pattern. VERY different from the image shown.

There needs to be a more accurate picture or at least a note on the web page.

I ordered the item pictured, but received a different model toypedo. Although not the end of the world (although my grandson, whom I bought it for was somewhat disappointed, I would have appreciated being told that I would not get the exact item ordered. If they had not reduced the price, I would have returned the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest toy EVER!!!, May 31, 2005

I got this toy and didn't think it would be that cool... boy was i wrong. I don't rele like it to play catch with like your supposed to. I take it and spin it into the pool without looking. Then me and my cousin go after it when we hear it hit the water. Because of the weight it goes in many different directions. This is the best toy ever. (I'm 13 so it's not just for kids)

We bought it about 2 years ago and from we took out we chucked it into the water and went about thirty feet. If you get the technique right you can make it hop out of the water and skimming is really fun.
Over all its the best toy me and my family have ever had

5.0 out of 5 stars Educational is all in how you use the Torpedo!, June 7, 2004

We have bought several of these through the years, as the chlorine in the pool will fade them eventually, making it hard to find. Taking it out of the pool, rinsing in clear water and storing out of the sun will probably extend its life. Leaving it in the pool all year long won't help it.

But educational? You bet! I had a friend over with a small boy who was afraid to put his head under water. Within a few minutes he was ducking his head under water, eyes open, in order to retrieve this fun toy as we zoomed it to him. This is a great toy for swim instructors to use.

And it also teaches physics! - propulsion, semi-flotation, directional pulls.

Physical education! Though the toypedo is fairly easy to throw, a technique must be mastered to get it to go far and in the direction you want it to go. If you want a workout in the pool, mom, just play with this toy in the pool with your kids.

Can it teach math or a foreign language? We homeschooled and our son invented a game where I would give him a math problem or a sentence to translate, and then I'd throw a pool toy, such as the Toypedo. He had to swim after the toy, and come up with it and the answer to the question. His rules. No, I didn't let him drown!

It isn't just for little kids. Our teens and their friends created many a game with the Toypedo. Some were rather like golf or ball game rules, with specific targets to hit or go through. The Toypedo doesn't come with directions and rules, but making them up for your own games is quite educational.

This toy would be a very fun toy to play with. It is very durable so you can have fun with it practically every time you go to the pool unless you forget it. You can make many different games out of it, for example there are three boys in a pool one boy throws the toypedo while the other two race to see who gets it first. I once tried it with these two boys at a hotel pool and one of the boys accidentally threw it into the nine foot deep end. We all went into the deep end to find it but nobody had found it. Then the boys' mother asked me if I would like some swimming goggles to find it, "Ok!" I said as I took them away from her. Then I dove in and there it was, I swam down to get it then I came up everybody was happy especially me. Now I keep on begging my mom for the toypedo and we will get it tomorrow. I think the toypedo is now my favorite toy.
