Its an inflatable plastic beach ball with a LED "sparkler" ball sealed inside of it that goes on for tens of seconds whenever it's hit stiffly. For the evening it worked, the kids thought it was pretty fun---and on a big grassy lawn, it was worth the bucks it cost. Sadly, by the next evening, it wasn't working---and there wasn't anything we could do to get it back on again. Sad.
Still, it was amusing for the one evening.
And here I am, ordered another one for a evening camp out.
Side note: not as bright as the picture posted---but under a star lit sky, bright enough...

This ball works ok, but I thought it would be better. We bought it to play with in the pool at night. It does look cool when it lights up, but sometimes you really have to slam it hard on the water to get it to work. I wish it would light up more easily.

I was slightly suspicious when my friend started raving about her light up beach ball. Often light up sporting goods do not live up to expectations. She had people over for a pool party and brought this out once the sun went down. It turned out to be easy to see and a good quality ball to boot! Great for the beach or pool in the evening!

We bought this ball for a friend. Within 20 mins it busted. It was make of really cheap plastic and the light didn't work. A total waste of money. The concept is nice and fun, but this particular product is just cheap and awful.

Cool product. I ordered 2, one keeps going flat, the other one hasnt lost any air over 3 weeks. Inconsistent. The lights are sometimes responsive, sometimes not, but theyre pretty fun to kick around a dark room!

I bought this for my husband's bday since we'd just had a pool put in and it looked pretty neat for night time pool time. We blew it up at the part and were able to use it 10 minutes before the lights stopped working and it started deflating. While it's really neat, it's obviously not durable and I wouldn't waste my money on it. We weren't being rough with it, so I can only imagine how it would do it you were having rough pool play like most people do with beach balls in a pool. The company did return it and refund my money very easily, it only took about 4 days turn around for that.

This beach ball is great for night time pool volleyball, as well as just bouncing around in the dark. It lights up when hit, and flashes for a few seconds there-after. This would be awesome at an outdoor concert!

I had read reviews about this beach ball being a piece of junk, etc. But for $5 or whatever it was, I decided to give it a shot. My 3yr old and 5yr old absolutely love it. The 3yr old a little more since we brought it out on her birthday at the beach, and she has kind of laid claim to it. We opened the package in June and have played with it periodically at the park, around the house, at the beach, at the pool, etc, throughout the whole summer. The light is still functioning at about the same brightness as it did straight out of the box, and the durability of the plastic seems to not be showing any major wear. I highly recommend this purchase for small children. It only seems possible to me that the durability issues that others are complaining about might come from over-aggressive play with a beach ball. In my head, I picture teenagers beating each other with the ball trying to make it light up and then getting upset when the light stops working.

Didn't last long
If its blown up its great! But it lasted maybe 3 days.... We weren't even swimming yet. But the light is cool and it needs to be really dark (no pool light on) to see it good.
