works fine so far x 3 months. BIGGEST problem, the holes on the side of the boat are NOT pre-drilled, need to be drilled with machinery yourself - takes about 30 minutes to get all holes open. Would not recommend with the extra work

I had a similar chlorinator that was made by a different mftr. I was disappointed when I received this one because it does not come with holes in the bottom part. You have to poke holes in it yourself so that the water can get in and the chlorine tablet can activate. This was no small task because there are about 30 holes that I had to poke and the plastic is pretty thick. The instructions tell you how many holes to poke according to the size of your pool. The other chlorinator that I had came with the holes already in it and it also unscrewed so that you could put in the tablets. This one is a little awkward because you have to pull off the bottom part then force it back on. Just be aware of this before you purchase it.

This great "sailboat" is an alternative to those boring blue chlorine dispenser/floaters. It's a nice addition to my backyard scenery as it randomly sails around its own little ocean (my swimming pool). The durable plastic boat and dispenser hanging below easily screw together and apart. It's larger size lets it hold about 6-- maybe 7-- of those 3" chlorine tablets, making refills much less frequent.

The dispenser "cup" has several rows of indentations (like pre-drilled holes, but they haven't been punched all the way through), the number of which you perforate according to the gallonage of your pool. Easy to follow instructions included. I used the sharp point of a steak knife to barely puncture the indentations, carefully twisting the point to bore little holes in each. I say this because pushing the knife too far in or using something less sharp (like a screwdriver or maybe even a nail) can split the plastic causing weak areas. (Pool owners know all too well that chlorine eats at everything plastic, so you want to get the most out of it. The last dispenser I had-- not this brand-- lasted about 2 years before the "cup" cracked apart, which is probably typical and not unexpected.)

Importantly, this was the least expensive floater I found of its type and size. It was almost half the price of others I saw all over the web. A GREAT deal, especially if you get free shipping with Amazon Prime.

One quick note: The star-rating questions Amazon posed before writing this review characterized this item as a "toy". It's cute and all, but it's definitely not a toy. So I debated about what stars to give it for "fun" and "educational". It's fun, but not a toy. Educational?: not applicable. It's OK floating around the pool with people in it, but obviously you don't want children or pets to play with something full of chlorine. Also, unlike others I've had, the tip of the "sail" does slightly poke above pool edge level, making it a little more accessible to kids and pets outside of the pool. (My dogs have been trained that it's a big no-no to mess with my yacht!) So depending on your situation, that's a consideration.
