A teacher friend bought my kids this book after Mr. Mike had visited her school site. Since we've had it I've read them almost every poem in it. They especially love the poems about nature. Though the drawings are black and white and a little primitive, they love those too. If you want to get a kid interested in reading or writing poetry, this is a good starter book!

We picked up the book on a day sail in St. John last year. One of the poems is about the captain and his dog. My 6-year-old son read most of the book while we were on the sail and carried it around with him for the rest of our vacation. He still loves it. In fact, I would say this is his favorite book. He asked me just last week to read it to him as a bedtime book. He finds the poems and line-drawn pictures laugh-out-loud funny. I'm actually enjoying it too. The book has more poems than most children's books and includes a picture for each poem.

My eight year old son has been begging me for this book for at least a couple of years. Mr. Mike came to his kindergarten class and read some of the poems and we missed the chance to get the book then. Our school library had one copy, it was taken out the first time and never returned. Our local book stores say it is unavailable. Well we checked here and there it was. My son and 6 year old daughter love the funny, easy to read poems. Since it was so hard to find, I am sure most any child would like it.
