Great Swim Aid,

The Swim Trainer is an easy on easy off swimming aid that the child steps into and then velcros at the shoulders and tightens on the sides. The front and back pouch have 9 remomovable bouyancy pads that can be taken out (without the child even knowing) as the childs swimming ability increases. This is a great learning to swim tool. Both my children have used it since they were about 20 months old and it has been a total success with building their confidence in the water. My youngest who is 2 and weighs about 24 lbs had some trouble with balancing and was tipping over. We remedied this problem by removing one of the 9 removalble pads in the front of the trainer and never had another problem. Another bonus with this swim trainer is that the children have free movement of their arms (unlike floaties) so they learn to paddle. I would recommend this to anyone with a child learning to swim.

We started my son with a swim sweater(tube) when he was 2, graduated to the small litte swimmer (yellow) when he was 3, the medium (green)little swimmer at 4. He's 5 now and can swim without the device. The motions he used with the swimmer to get around the pool taught him to swim without lessons. He still can't touch the bottom of the pool, but he's got the large swimmer (purple) so he can play longer in the pool without getting tired. The little swimmer requires some upper body strength so if your tike is having problems keeping upright, start with the swim sweater. The tube is under the child's arms and sits higher in the water.

Works painfully well,

I bought a couple of these last summer for my (then) 4 and 8 year old sons. They are on the slim side and had no trouble keeping the device on. They both felt comfortable in the pool and even released their terror grip from my shoulders. The MAIN PROBLEM is the chaffing. Since the device is meant to float, it goes with gravity and goes up. This causes the straps on the side to bunch up under the armpits and rub the skin raw. It works but is painful by the end of the day.

My 2 1/2 year old can really swim by herself. As long as she has the vest on I let her have free rein in the pool. She really has learned to kick and user her arms unrestraint by other floation devices. Just recently we have taken the vest off and she really can swim on her back without assistance and on her stomach with some supervision. I have used the vest for last summer and this summer. I recommend that you rinse it out in after every use and keep it out of the sun or the materal will break down. One extra thing they could do is put some cushioning on the bungee cords under the arms. My daughter loves it too!

We bought this for out 2 yr. old daughter since we were going on vacation....SHE WAS LOVING IT!!!!! She loves the water but cannot swim. With this swim aid, she actually felt as if she were swimming....the look on her face of accomplishment was memorable. For extra support we added the arm floats and she was on her own. She was at it alone with us very near by. I love it, she loves it.

My two year old daughter swims on her own easily with this and is confident that she will not go under. It has held up well except for one problem. The strap that goes between the child's legs and connects the two pads, preventiing the vest from slipping up over the head (strap conveniently not pictured above) chafes the skin badly. The vest came with an add-on fix of a grey piece of foam, which is easily lost.
The two pads should be connected with a swimsuit type liner that disperses the force and does not chafe. I'd buy another one no problem if that one improvement were made.

This floatie works great for smaller children who cannot yet fit into the standard vests. It has allowed my child to float in the pool and tread water. It is a great first step towards swimming and fits really well because it can be adjusted. The strap between the legs does not allow the float to ride up around the neck which is good.

I got this for my 2 year old son (who is petite) - it fit him well but once we were in the water, it was very unstable. He kept tipping to either side and couldn't stay floating in the proper position. We borrowed a friend's ring with a seat (so the child doesn't fall through the hole) and he played for hours very happily. Plus my arms got a little rest.

Our family has tried several different aids for teaching our kids to swim at an early age. This is by far the best product. It is versatile because you can adjust the size significantly as your child grows as well as adjust the buoyancy depending on your child's confidence level. I can't recommend this product more!

Although initially our 2 year old was doing pretty well with this in the pool, after an hour, one of the strap came off and the other one was close to ripping off as well. I'm sure that if this would not have happened, I would highly recommend this device to assist in teaching children to balance themselves in water and begin swimming, but unfortuantely, this is a major health hazard and they should be recalled. I advise all parent who have purchased this to inspect it thoroughly and of course, not leave your child alone in the water for even the briefest moment. Perhaps this one was a fluke but nonetheless, I intend to contact the manufacture and file a complaint.
