We ran into this toy at Toys 'R' Us and were immediately drawn to it (as was our toddler). It was swimming around a small circular pool like a real live fish. It's very realistic (the more water you put it in, the better, as the noise it makes gets dampened) and it's highly educational for your children, as they can see the movement of the fish's back fin and how it propels it forward allowing it to swim.

On the downside, it's kind of creepy at times, precisely because of how realistic it is. Also it has a very strong smell of plastic when you pull it out of its packaging. Other than that, it's a great toy for a pool or a large tub (it may need more room than your typical pool to swim, as most fish would). :)

This is the coolest pool toy I've seen in years. It looks so realistic that it had a dozen adults standing around the pool watching the FISH while the kids played & swam after it. As a scuba diver, I can tell you that this fish looks & swims just like a real reef fish. It swims just below the surface so you can always see it. We brought this fish to Florida with us on vacation and it "swam" on 2 AA batteries for 4 days nonstop.

I bought this toy for my 2 and 3 year old to use in the tub and in their kiddy pool. My 2 year old just likes to pick it up to see it flap its tall. My 3 year old likes to pretend it is chasing her. It is a bit slow in turbulant water so don't expect much in a crowded pool but it picks up speed in still water. Very realistic and durable. Both of my children have pulled on everything and it is still holding without sign of wanting to come apart.

The Rainbow Reef Pool/Pond Fish operates on 2 AA batteries. Batteries are not included, but they are pretty simple to install. Just open up the battery compartment, place the batteries in, and make sure the compartment is securely fastened back. The directions advise to take care when securing the compartment back, in order not to ruin the fish. Once the batteries are installed, Mr. Fishie is ready to swim. Once placed in the water, the back fin immediately goes to work and it is swimming everywhere. The fish will swim continuously while in water, and will stop once out of the water and dry.

Our experience with Swimway's Rainbow Reef Pool/Pond Fish

Once we got the fish home, my daughter couldn't wait to get started and honestly I couldn't either. After opening it up and installing the batteries, we headed straight to the pool. As soon the fish was placed in water, the back fin started flapping furiously and it headed straight toward the middle of the pool. My daughter then started clapping her hands in delight and saying, " He is alive Mom!" For some reason then, the fish kind of circled and went to bottom of the pool and hung out there for a while. It was still going non stop but he just didn't want to come back to the surface and swim (which he is supposed to do). Finally I swam under and brought him back to the shallow end, but he was not easy to catch! This little fish has a mind of his own and kept swimming away. I was beginning to get discouraged because my 4 year old cannot quite swim yet and I wanted the fish to stay near the surface so she could play with him better.

Once I retrieved it however, I brought it back and it decided to behave. It swam around on the surface for the most part, only occasionally taking the deep plunge.

A pleasure too have in the pool but dont throw them.they can be fragile in rough housing. they are meant for peaceful swimming. i mean that you cant chuck them and cannon ball with them, you can jump in the pool by them not on them. but they are deffinantly worth money. you will have plenty of fun. also see my rainbow reef turtle review.

These are a lot of fun, I bought them for my pool, even the pool people love them. I put them in the pool when friends come to swim. The only down side is theny do tend to end up in the skimmer and the batteries wear out pretty fast. I would recommend them for adults or kids

Hi I am 11 and I have a pool in my backyard and it was just a regular pool just to swim in and hardly do anything in it accept well..... just swim!!!! But then one day me, my mom, my dad, and my brother all went to toys r us for a intertube because the one that we had popped. And then the " Rainbow Reef Fish" cought my eye. Then I picked it up and asked my mom and dad if we could get it for the pool. They said yes we could but only if we payed for it with are own money which I happened to have my money with me in my pocket that day. So when we got home I got my bathing suit on and got the fish and I jumped right in the pool to play with it. I WAS SO EXCITED!!! This is a GREAT toy! And it is especially fun to go underwater with goggles and look at it swim from underneath the water. I highly reccomend this toy. And for the people who said that it stopped working. The just get a new one it could have been the fish. But it is worth the money.
