Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Admirers of Gallop! which last year introduced Seder's astonishing Scanimation technology, won't want to miss this sports-themed follow-up. Open the die-cut cover and see a baseball player swing his bat at a ball, then watch as the ball zooms ever-larger to fit the acetate window showcasing all this action. Yes, there's motion on each of these spreads, or the illusion of motion, as hidden engineering triggers codes on the b&w Scanimation images. As in the previous title, colored fonts and multicolored borders offset the severity of the b&w pictures and generate reader participation: Can you ride a bicycle?/ spin! vrim! vrooom! On other spreads, child athletes perform soccer drills, run, cartwheel, twirl on ice skates, shoot hoops, swim and lead cheers—it's all jaw-dropping, even if the novelty technology has yet to find its most imaginative application. Ages 3–up. (Oct.)

Its a great book for kids who like to "read" to themselves in bed at night.

This book and the similar book "Gallop" by the same author, are some of our favorites and are loved by both children and adults.

I bought this book for Christmas presents for my 16 month old grandson and my 17 month old great nephew.

I'm a kindergarten teacher and so I've read thousands of children's books to my students. This book and the similar book "Gallop" by the same author, are some of our favorites and are loved by both children and adults. I've also given both books as gifts that received rave reviews!

Fans of Rufus Butler's previous book "Gallop" will love this new offering. This book has kids in various motions - riding a bike, moving on ice etc. Although the suggested age group says 4-8, I'd say even babies-toddlers will appreciate this and be enthralled by the moving images. Though the idea behind this is by no means novel, it still has a magical feel to it and even adults will be fascinated!

We love this book at our house. The kids even took it to "show and tell" on Thanksgiving with extended family. Everyone loved it - esp. the adults. What a fun book! I'm getting Gallop!

This book works the same way as Gallop. (Another great book) I got it for my grandchildren last year. When I go to babysit they still bring this out for me to read. I just bought Swing for my three year old grandson for Christmas. I can't wait to give it to him. He's going to go bonkers over it.

Absolutely amazing. I bought it for a speech-language pathologist friend who already has Gallop!. She uses it with her young clients and loves it. The pictures move, and there are no batteries to worry about. Just good old-fashioned magic.

The pictures in this book are unbelieveable, but the words leave alot to be desired. My two year old loves it because she can act out the words, but my 5 year old was bored after flipping through it the first time. I wish there was more of a story line, but Ill take this over some gazillion word Disney book any day.

This book is the 2nd book by Rufus Butler. It takes an old concept and brings it to life in a fun book where children can make pictures move! I say "an old concept" because this idea of moving pictures has been around for a long time; I had books similar in type when I was a child. Very cute book, lots of fun to look at. Great for 2-4 yrs.

I just saw this book at a baby shower, picked it up and played with it for about 10-15 minutes. What a great idea for a book! Adults all passed it around and everyone who held it had a positive comment about it. COOL AWESOME WEIRD NEAT were some of the words to describe their reactions to this book. I am going to get this one along with GALLOP as a gift for babies and toddlers birthdays that will come up soon.
