Driven by a rugged brass gear and equipped with a hardened-steel cutter, this wall-mounted can opener opens any can with a smooth, powerful action. Even with badly dented cans, the cutter won't skip as it's cranked around the can's top. Built to last, the opener attaches to its bracket (included, along with four screws) with a slide-out pin so the opener can be removed for cleaning. Once mounted, the opener locks in any of three positions for ease of use and swings flat to the wall either right or left for convenience. Perpendicular to a wall, the opener sticks out 7 inches. If you open a lot of cans, and have a place to install it, this is the easiest and fastest consumer-grade opener there is. No more fumbling and mis-fires.

A joy to use and much less effort than any hand-held model.

Does require a solid mounting surface - ideally a (wood) wall cabinet, or a base cabinet. You'll need to be able to swing it out of the away lest it become a safety hazard.

If you don't have a place to mount it, get the hand-held Swing Away as the cutter/gear mechanism for the wall mount and hand-held are identical.

I had this item previously for 25 years until it finally wore itself out. I searched the web and found the Swing Away Wall Can Opener on Amazon. I was delighted that I could purchase the same product, except, it is nowhere near the quality of the original and wobbles and its cutting is hit and miss. I then discovered by old opener was MADE IN THE USA, and this new one is MADE IN CHINA. Be wary folks, the title of your purchase may be the same, but the production poor.
So disappointed in my purchase.

I've gone through half a dozen can openers in just a few years, and then just as I was despairing that I would never find a decent one that didn't take up a ridiculous amount of space I remembered the wall-mounted Swing-Away that hung for decades on my great-grandmother's wall. I was thrilled to find that they're not only still available, but still inexpensive. I love that it "swings away" (thus the name!) to lie flat against the wall when it's not needed. The pull-down lever secures the can and the crank handle operates very easily, so the whole opening process feels secure and can contents don't slop. I can make "ten can soup" without feeling like my hands are going to break off or like the can opener's going to fall apart! I give these as housewarming gifts now. As others have pointed out, they do need a sturdy mounting point, like a solid wood cabinet or a wall stud (you may need to substitute longer screws than are provided). I'm confident that mine will last for decades just like Great-Grandma's.
