"A camel is a horse designed by a comittee." That is an apt description of this, Lee Presson and the Nails's second CD. It seems to be pulled in two different directions. On the one hand, you've got Lee Presson's great original songs like "Hat Back Boogie" and "That only Happens in the Movies," which is reminiscent of Indigo Swing. But the original songs that Lee didn't...

When I first saw these guys play, I fell in love with their stage performance. After purchasing the first album, I fell in love with the music. And now they have gone into the studio, and turned out this beautiful, warped, wonderfully twisted ride through a haunted mansion. I find myself listening to it in all moods, for the music varies greatly - from madness to love to hate to crazy joy. This band not only knows the classics to a T - but they know how to update it without making it sound disturbingly modern. This is the only band that I ever go to see when they grace my town, because every show is mind boggling. Buy this album and enjoy the ride - if it were $100 I would still buy it twice. Swing Or DIE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Dead President You Spend...., June 25, 2000
This review is from: Swing Is Dead (Audio CD)
The only way to describe this CD is it is a musical mixture of Tim Burton and Glenn Miller. It sounds great, looks great, and is more entertaining than a drunk monkey in a pink tutu...

Buy this CD.

This is quite possibly one of the best swing bands out there. Their unique style of gothic swing is like no other. The energy this band brings is unparalleled and their CD captures that perfectly.

But the original songs that Lee didn't write just don't seem to fit. Leslie Presley sounds beautiful as always, and she does her best with Larry Sweeny's "He's still a Mystery to Me" and "Shadowman" but they still sound like they were written for another band. Ironic, since the songs that WERE written for other bands, like Elvis Costello's "Wave a White Flag" and the Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash" (!!) are the high points here. I guess they were pressured to have more original songs but face it boys, it's better to have a good cover song than a bad original song. This CD has both.

I think their latest CD, "El Bando En Fuego!" is their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!, July 13, 2000
This review is from: Swing Is Dead (Audio CD)
This is truly the coolest swing CD out there. The reason, because it's truly "out there." Totally twisted songs that never seem to get boring. This is truly one that you can listen to over and over again. Lee Press-on has the most unique and diverse sound that will keep you guessing from track to track. My favorite tracks include Hat Back Boogie, the way cool Devil Drums, and Ghost riders in the sky. Buy this album, then do yourself a real favor and see this band live.

I loved the first album and while i miss the live energy thats not on the second album, i still think its absolutely great. Lots of really good tracks. The coffin song is definatly my favorite followed by Wave the white flag and hatback boogie. If you don't have this album yet, GET IT! you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now here are some Nails that should never be clipped..., July 19, 2001

This CD is one of my favorites out of my whole collection(and coming from an avid lover of heavy metal, that's seriously saying something!). This was the first LPN CD that I ever bought(don't ask how I came across it) and I can't get enough. That's why I bought all 3, and they're all great too! Whether you're a goth punk looking for something new to do, other than slit your wrists, or an old time swinger that remembers 'the good old days', this CD is for you! Remember, the 4th LPN CD is being recordered in August(I think this is the right month), and it is entitled, 'El Bando En Fuego'. According to the band's alto sax player, Mark Donnelly(he told me this at a show I was at), it's a latin album with entirly new material. Sounds good to me! Oh, and I highly suggest seeing these guys live in concert, they put on a Hell of a show! Just go to www.leepresson.com to see show dates. And once again(just as I mentioned on my post for the 'Playing Dirty' album), if anyone from the band is looking at this, please contact the Gaslighter Music Hall in Gilroy, Ca(it's a little south of San Jose) and see if you could get a show. I know the kind of people that hang there, and it would be one ripp'n gig!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Swing, July 18, 2000
This review is from: Swing Is Dead (Audio CD)
I first heard LPN at a concert and they were GREAT. Their music is upbeat, and catchy. Its variety in tempo is wonderful to listen to, as well as its stunning vocals (by Mrs. Presley.) The band is very out-there, and marvelous to listen to!

3.0 out of 5 stars This cd wasn't the best of lee press on nails, January 27, 2003
This review is from: Swing Is Dead (Audio CD)
Being a fan of lee press on nails,
I must admit this wasn't one of their better album. The first album was excellent i did enjoy how it was about the swing music, and kept the music a live and moving. I felt this album was dull and made me want to turn it off after i got to the second song. Because i felt the musical element of the band wasn't there, this more an expermintal art piece than a real album. I yet to buy their new album because i am afraid of what it would sound like. Hopefully better than this album.

HO-HUM....guess it's O.K. if your a goth, cover and lyrics are truly twisted, If someone gives it to you it's worth a listen, don't spend good money on it.
