Bad News,
This review is from: Swing Era: Artie Shaw/Tommy Dorsey (DVD)
Another loser from the people who produce the Swing Era series. This one is titled Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey. Be advised that there are only four Shaw tracks and two of those feature Fred Astaire not Artie. The four Tommy Dorsey tracks include two from the horrible 1947 movie "The Fabulous Dorsey's" and the other two are from the 1950's TV show that brought the Dorsey brothers together. The remaining 14 tracks are of a strange assortment of other performers that range from awful to just OK. The producers do not do their homework. The liner notes are unreliable. In one case Helen Forrest is listed on an Artie Shaw track - but she's nowhere to be seen. Another track lists Bob Eberly as his brother Ray. It is too bad someone can't do a better job of researching and producing a decent video from the 1935 to 1946 period.
