Book Description

In the year 2229, cash-starved prospector Mia Blancharde uncovers a valuable relic while digging around the swing zone, a shared forest area that lies between two cities. To the north is Freedale, a polluted militaristic metropolis on the cutting edge of high technology. To the south sits picturesque Lakeside, a quiet rural community of earth-loving purists.

A delicate accord between the two cities has allowed their peaceful coexistence, but as renegade activists from Lakeside start taking potshots at Freedale, Mia's brother, Colonel Zavier Blancharde, calls for an attack to retaliate against them. With the swing zone fast becoming a battle zone, Mia rushes to excavate her find with the help of Coltis Lawson, an archeology enthusiast from the purist side. His knowledge and almost magical capabilities only serve to confuse her further, as she finds herself unwittingly falling for a man she's not sure she can trust.

With her opinion swaying back and forth along with the tide of the conflict, Mia comes to learn there's more at stake than she could possibly imagine. Torn between her love and her city, she struggles to uncover the mysterious truth while trying not to get trapped on the wrong side of a very dangerous line.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Opener March 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A post-apocalyptic world has rebuilt from the edge of catastrophe. The city of Freedale sits on the border of an oncoming skirmish between its soldiers and a sect of renegade purists who reside outside its gates. Mia Blancharde might be an ordinary resident, but her trips to the Swing Zone bear the shiver of foreshadowing, replete with a prize, a stranger, and girl hungry for adventure. I look forward to seeing more of Jodi McClure's story unfold.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great start - Swin Zone July 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Swing Zone is just 27 pages long but it has enough details to keep you entertained until the last page. It is year 2229 after the world had almost succumbed to natural apocalypse. Earth was almost wiped out by a meteor that passed to close by. In its pass by earth it brought death and destruction.

The action happens in a post apocalyptic US, where society is separated in two; the purists who are what we know today as environmentalists (to the extreme) and the techies who are the citizens who adopt & embrace technology. The city is on the verge of conflict between the purists and soldiers. In the 200 years since the catastrophe, society has tried to exceed and thrive while digging out the remaining pieces of what once was a civilization.

Mia is a high-spirited woman who finds purpose while digging hidden treasure out of the earth. Her and her father's survival depends very much on their finds and the money they generate from the sale of their finds. I like how the author portrait Mia, she is curious, adventurous and doesn't stop at anything to get what she considers hers.

This is a nice and innovative way of storytelling, great concept and interesting topic. The author did a great job creating this new society, by adding a hint of suspense and the unknown the author makes the story more interesting. I am looking forward to find out about the purist Mia stun with the taser, what his meaning in the story is and what consequences Mia will have to face. I am also looking forward to reading about the almost eminent conflict between the purist and the soldiers of Freedale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good First Issue June 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Swing Zone Issue #1 is a gripping story set in an apocalyptic city. The main character, Mia, is a driven, determined, and spunky young woman. She spends her days locating 20th and 21st Century items that are buried just outside of the city gates. One wonders if she will ever get locked out of the city after curfew?????

The authors of this series have created a gritty, thought provoking backdrop. Their details concerning characters and objects take you on a wonderful journey of Mia's life and times.
This is a must read for anyone looking for a fast paced, futuristic series. I look forward to reading Issue #2 and the other subsequent issues. I rated Swing Zone 5 stars on my Kindle!
