Product Description

Product Description

Swingbyte is a revolutionary mobile golf swing analysis device for use with iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Swingbyte pairs an elegant and intuitive app with a lightweight sensor that attaches easily to any golf club just below the grip. Immediately after a golf swing, Swingbyte wirelessly transmits key swing data and interactive 3-D imagery via Bluetooth to a golfer's iOS or Android device. Valuable swing metrics captured include club head speed, path, plane, and various angles at impact. Swings recorded in the field are also automatically uploaded to Swingbyte’s website where users can access their information, share swing data with an instructor for further assistance, and see how they stack up against personal milestones as well as the Swingbyte community.

I'm not sure why others have had issues with this device. I got this about 2 weeks ago, and it works REALLY well for me. I had read reviews for training devices on mygolfspy and decided on this. It came in second in the reviews but was $100 cheaper than the one in first place. My review below:

Attachment
Pretty straightforward. I have not had any problems with this staying on graphite or iron shafts. My club head speed with my driver is 105mph and with a 6 iron is 85 mph. No slippage on either. Given that it uses rubber and pressure to stay gripped. I wonder how long this will last. I did find with a friend's club that if you have a sticker on your shaft where you affix the device, it will move.

Connection:
It connects via Bluetooth to an android phone or the iPad. I have used it on both. The iPad provides a nicer interface as the larger screen area allows it.

Data:
The amount of data you see is incredible. Swing speed, shaft angle, shaft lean, path angle, tempo etc.. You also get a 3D motion view of your swing which you can move around and see exactly what the club is doing. Additionally, you can go to your profile on their website, and all of your swings are available to see. I didn't have to do any special setup. It just does it. You can also share the data with anyone via a personal URL for a particular swing. I have one here for example, if amazon will allow the URL.
[...]

Accuracy of data:
I have not set this up with a flightscope or anything, but have read articles by others who have, and it seems the data this provides is within 1-3 mph of what a launch monitor gives. If I get the opportunity some time, I'll try to do my own comparison.

In all, I love this thing.

I watched all the videos I could find about this device before I decided to drop $150 on it. I'm a college student currently shooting in the low 90's trying to get better; I can't afford lessons so I thought this would be a good way for me to have my own sort of trackman machine like they have at local driving ranges.

I downloaded the software to a Galaxy tablet; connecting the software to the device was smooth and the interface works very well, however the same software downloaded to my Galaxy S4 phone must have been an older version or something (right when I bought this device in April 2014 they came out with new software for Android which I have downloaded) because it did not work at all and the interface on the phone looks very different from the software that actually works on the tablet. So if you have an android tablet you should be fine here, I have no experience with the Apple version of the app.

Some critical parts on this thing seem pretty cheaply built. I have hit around 150 balls with it clipped to the shafts of various clubs, and the plastic around the clip is already cracking. It has a 30 day return policy from Amazon and from the Swingbyte website, so I can't do that anymore, but the Swingbyte company has a 365 day warranty that I am trying to get. So far the customer service from swingbyte has been good, I'll update this review once I'm done with the warranty exchange and see if the replacement device has similar issues to my current one. I swing my driver 105mph on average (if I keep it in play I'll hit between 230 and 300 yard drives) according to the swingbyte device and swing my irons between 70 and 80mph. When I hit the ball off the hossle or skull it, the device usually rattles loose and it slides down the shaft.

Hi Will -

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Swingbyte! First of all, we love how you approached your purchase decision and we completely understand your frustration, especially since you were getting such helpful information from your Swingbyte!

Our intention is to make a great product that is super helpful and affordable for golfers who are serious about improving their swings. Since you've done the research, you know we've been pretty successful in this endeavor.

While we've thoroughly tested the Swingbyte hardware to ensure that it is tough enough to withstand the force of your swing, the force of impact created during a golf swing is extremely intense and occasionally issues will come up. We've committed ourselves to having great customer service and policies in place to ensure that our customers are taken care of in the event that issues do arise.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience and we're more than happy to get a replacement taken care of for you-- just drop us a note at support@swingbyte.com . The most important thing is that you found the experience and technology useful-- we'll have you back up and running ASAP.

Apologies again for the trouble and thank you (as always!) for the feedback!

Best,
The Swingbyte Team

The rubber holding the clamp on split and the clamp came off after only a few uses rendering the unit unusable. Very disappointed in the quality of the clamp. I have contacted Swingbyte regarding a replacement and I will update this review according to the level of service I receive.

Contacted Swingbyte via email and had a response within 15 min. stating they were sending a replacement clamp. Will up date again when the clamp arrives.

Upgrading to 5 stars. The new part arrived in three days. Things happen sometimes and you can not ask for better customer service!

First off the information from this unit seemed plentiful. Not that i understood all of the items or what the values should be. The issues I had with this unit were;
Slipping on the shaft for 4, 5, and 6 irons, or any time I hit a thin or fat shot.
Intermittently losing connection (I tried iphone 4s and Ipad with same result.)
Not always recording a swing (This was annoying)
Anyway for some this may be the ticket but i prefer something less problematic. Again I believe the info reported will be helpful for some.

I have the Swingbyte 2 and I also have the 3Bays unit. The Swingbyte is head and shoulders above the 3Bays unit. The original Swingbyte software was a little awkward, but it's been recently upgraded/updated and is responsive, smooth and easy to use. I use a doppler radar unit most of the time to check clubhead speed, and the Swingbyte results are always within 1-2 mph. I'm using the unit on a Samsung Galaxy 3 with 16 gigs. It also works perfectly on my putter. I identified a fault, corrected the fault, and now can't wait for the snow to melt.

If you're looking for a swing analyzer, buy this one.
