The third or fourth album in this series concentrates on big band gems from the forties, giving us great stereo recordings featuring some of the best studio players around. Woody Herman's Apple Honey kicks it off in fine style. Mission to Moscow sounded a bit slow, but that's only because I'm used to the version by Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band. The Champ was an unknown title to me, and Kenton's Intermission Riff is a perfect closer. The sound is great, a credit to Capitol's engineers, who probably had to do a session with Kenton's mellophonium orchestra during the same time period. If you can get that on tape, you can do anything.

good album but!,

this is the third in the series that Glen put out for capitol but i don't understand why they didn't put the fourth one called please mr. gray with the swingin decade as a twofer it doesn't make any sense. still a great album. there were nine in all and 7 with Glen before he died in 1963 and then Billy May continued with the last two of the series which came to nine in all.
