Tony Elman - Swinging on a Gate,
By Karl A. Smith (Ohiio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swingin' on a Gate (Audio CD)
Received this item several years ago as a gift to take on a long road trip. The soft mellow tones of the dulcimer and the tin whistle help to relax a weary soul. While there are many artists in this genre of music, Tony Elman, in this album, has captured the magic that gives this genre life. Two of my favorites are 'Lost Island' and 'Burning of the Pipers Hut'. I would recomend this album to anyone but especially to those who may be new to this genre.

This is a great album that has been around for a while. Anyone who enjoys Appalachian or Celtic music will enjoy all the cuts on this CD.

This review is from: Swingin' on a Gate (Audio CD)
It has been several years since I was first introduced to Swingin' on a Gate. I walked into a bookstore and was immediately mesmerized by the background music. I had to know what was playing. Even though I was on a college student's budget I immediately bought the audiotape.
Recently I bought a car that had a 6 CD changer. I wanted to fill it with my all-time favorite music. You guessed it. I had to buy the CD to include in my collection. Very few recordings have the kind of staying power to remain my favorites over many years. This is one of them. My most favorite track is "Lost Island." Reminds me of The Secret of Roan Inish.
