The Very True Tribute...,
By Bernadette (New York, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swingin to Michael Jackson (Audio CD)
This is one of the best tribute to Michael Jackson I have ever heard. There are '80's hits of Michael Jackson such as Thriller and Billie Jean. These two songs represent the Michael and the '80's with there smooth, yet danceable sounds. Who can forget the catchy line from Thriller or the ultra-smooth sound of Billie Jean. Michael closed out the '80's with his hip song Bad which is not only hip but a new kick into what Michael had in store for us. This album contains older songs from the '70's such as ABC which is pure fun-lovin groove. Rock with You is a sleek shakable song with great, touchable lyrics. Don't Stop 'till you Get Enough explains its self. You cannot get enough of the beat and all you want to do is dance. This CD is excellent, although I would have loved to hear some '90's classics on it such as Remeber the Time, Dangerous, and You are Not Alone. The CD is a total time line of Michael's work and I totally recommend it to any Michael Jackson fan.

I wish MJ Himself would do something along these lines on Himself.this is so Cool MJ's Music with Swing Arrangements&Grooves.it would have been so cool to Hear songs from the 90's like In the CLoset,Remember The Time,Stranger in Moscow,Jam, done in this Format.but this is a Cool Set&I really enjoy it.it would be so cool if MJ did a Unplugged based on this format.

This is just awful. The arrangements make this sound more like elevator music than alternative interpretations of Michael Jackson music. I can't imagine who the audience for this is -- Michael Jackson fans and elevator music fans will likely hate it equally.So why did I buy it? I heard a big band rendition of "Billy Jean" in a Westin hotel in Boston and it was so bad it was funny. That rendition had a lounge lizard singer and actually took some time before you figured out what the song was -- the melody had been changed enough to make it a different song. I had hoped this was it, but it was so bad it's just bad. In fact, I tried to return it to Amazon, and they gave me my money back but didn't want me to return the CD. I guess they had sold this one copy to enough people!

No, not a new tribute, but nonetheless, a very nice 2000 tribute to our beautiful Michael!
"Magnifique", the French would say!!! Die-hard music lover? Die-hard Michael lover? Michael himself would be thoroughly proud of this one in his honor/as a tribute. Granted, it's hard to swing to I'll Be There and Ben, yet the arrangements lend a wonderful uniqueness...smooth, easy-listening...to the two songs. This MJ tribute is a beautiful, hot "infusion" of the sounds of Motown and Big Band. This one truly `swings', and truly to my liking. 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough' really and truly "swings"!!! As for my taste, the ending song The Way You Make Me Feel, has a tempo that's a tad too slow...seems to lack that high-stepping spirit that I remember in the rhythmic strut of Michael's various female dancers...video, tour, stage performances. Also, the sax solo at the end of this track is performed well, but I found it too long, boring and showboat-ish. My spouse said he didn't like the ending either.... too much sax in the stretch, he thought. Nonetheless, I agree wholeheartedly that the arrangement is an "enchanting collection", and I personally recommend it to all lovers of both MICHAEL and MUSICAL STYLES. It is well worth my cash...I gave these instrumentals a five max.

A True Tribute to the King of Pop,

This review is from: Swingin to Michael Jackson (Audio CD)
This CD is a very true tribute to the King of Pop. I know its a little odd hearing these songs done in swing style, but overall, its pretty fun. It's neat to hear such muscial classics being played in different a format. I really enjoyed this CD. Now, if you like this CD, check into Count Basie's Beatle Bag which is Count Basie doing a Jazz Version of Classic Beatle songs. So, if you dig this, I guarantee you'll dig Count Basie's Beatle Bag!

Interesting...,

...but I wonder about the concept. I mean, uhhh, swing? Michael Jackson? It doesn't really make sense. Although the album is well-executed, Michael's wonderful music is all his own, and shouldn't be messed with, even in a well-meaning "tribute."

Swing = Blah,

I easily grew very tired by the swing sound on this CD.To begin with, half of the songs don't even sound like what they're supposed to. (Example: Billie Jean) This completely ruins the objective of trying to reproduce MJ's songs. So, unless you're a big fan of swing music, I strongly suggest you stick to the original music. |
