5+ stars for maria and the three little fishies,

In my continuing quest to find music that my children and I can listen to (often over and over and over again), and something (ANYTHING) to substitute for the Thomas theme song after we have played it constantly for over an hour, I purchased this CD. This CD was a hit even for my opiniated three year old twosome. Now at least we can alternate Thomas with the "Three Little Fishies". They have even developed hand signals for the "little fishies" swimming "over the dam" and the BIG SHARK. The other songs on the CD are great too and I hope that we will be able to hear more of them too some day. Thank you Maria for another wonderful CD.

Sensational,

I was given this cd by Ms. Muldaur when she visited Milwaukee. Hearing her sing these great 40's tunes that were made popular by many of the popular singing stars back then is wonderful to listen to especially now that she has cleverly incorporated jazz and swing to the melodies. Her voice is sultry and pleasing to the point that you keep wanting to hear more and more. I haven't regretted buying this particular cd. It's sensational. I hope she does another 13 children's songs with a jazzy and swinging background.

We just received this CD today, and it is awesome! Maria Muldar has the best voice, and it's so cool that she did a CD for KIDS! My 9 month old son loves it! It's up-beat, and you can really boogie to it! =)

Mama... I want to hear SWING!!!!,

My toddler love, love, LOVES this CD!!!! It's been on (almost) constant rotation since we got it 5 days ago. It's the 1st thing he asks, er, demands to listen to in the morning. Thankfully, the music & singing are top-notch, as are the songs chosen. The songs are cute, sweet, and easy to sing & dance along to. As a former swing dance instructor, it was important to me to find a good CD of swing music for kids with excellent musicianship & one that didn't "water down" the music. This CD is excellent for both adults (a requirement in our household) and children. It's VERY danceable & I foresee many, many hours of dancing the 20's Charleston to this CD.

I'm hoping this won't be the last release from Maria Muldaur on this label. This has been my daughter's favorite music for a solid 6 months -- "Aba Daba" simply *means* music in our house now. Because most of the songs are up-beat and swingy, it's good for the late afternoon, when the doldrums are likely to set in. My only criticism is that not every one of these old chestnuts was worth reviving -- "Animal Fair" being one of them; "Peanut" is another. And with all due respect, "Mairzy Doats" just hasn't gotten less asinine with age. Even Muldaur herself seems bored by these songs; her voice gets strained and reedy on these cuts. No, it's on tunes like "Choo 'N Gum," "Aba Daba Honeymoon," and "Three Little Fishies" that Muldaur's singing and the musicianship of the players really shines. Tip: Muldaur's earlier release on the Music for Little People label, On the Sunny Side (1990), is filled with some of the best pre-WWII songs ever published (and few not-so-old ones as well) and its musicality cannot be beat. So guess which disc is the number two favorite in our house?

My children love the songs on this CD. They are older songs that I also love to listen to. We have lots of fun singing and listening to this music together!

You'll want to dance along with your child!,

What a find! After several attempts to find music for my son that I can tolerate, this is a refreshing discovery. Clever lyrics, catchy tunes and decidedly jazzy/swingy arrangements. This is music that adults can listen to while introducing their child to an actual music genre, rather than yet another rendition of children's classic. Your child will notice the different instruments being played and you'll both want to dance to it!

A nice CD for kids to listen to a zillion times. Fans will appreciate the clear, well enunciated vocalization reminiscent of her eponymous Reprise album. The studio mucicians are, as usual, of outstanding quality. It would be a joy to hear her use this voice singing happy songs to "big people." Singing "blues" does not showcase her clarity and sparkle as well. And, yes, with a programable CD player, songs 1, 2, & 6 provide great exercise accompaniment.

Whenever I sing a few lines from any of Maria's songs, people smile! We love the rendition of Three Little Fishes. It is wonderful music to wake up to in the morning or to get on with your household chores with a smile on your face! My children's ages range from 10-20 and the whole lot of us have fun listening to this one, over and over!
