Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

We love Sam- he is inspiring and full of life at 84- and an incredible musician. The story of how he decided to start writing at 80 years old, and has written two books with one finger on an old typewriter is in itself inspiring.

Sam is a Jazz Drumming legend in his own time. He has written 2,500 drum manuals, has numerous records and CD's and is loved by musicians everywhere.

Perhaps more importantly, as a health publisher, we view Sam's writing as an inspiration for living a healthy, full life. When Sam recently found out he had a form of diabetes that was controllable through diet, he changed his eating habits that day. No excuses. No bull. No remorse. That's how he writes and his message is refreshing.

Get this book for all of your friends and family over 55. Or under that age if they need common sense advice for living.

About the Author

Taking up the drums at age 13, Sam Ulano opened his first studio four years later and began teaching and writing about drumming. He followed up high school with four years at the Manhattan School of Music before being drafted into the army, where he trained a 100-piece drum corps.

Now 84 years old and showing no signs of letting up, Sam is a performer, educator and author who has been in the music profession for over 65 years. During that time, he has studied with and taught the best of them, while carving out a niche for himself as a respected drummer on the New York scene. Sam has played at many of the top nightspots in New York, including the Gaslight Club and, currently, the famed Red Blazer. He’s played the summer resorts, the concert field, and is known as "Mr. Rhythm" for his more than 500 shows for young audiences throughout the New York school system. He has appeared on television with Steve Allen on The Tonight Show, as well as with Gary Moore, Ernie Kovacs, and Joe Franklin.

Well-known for his methods of drum teaching and his progressive approach to writing about the instrument he loves, Sam has over 2500 instruction books to his credit—300 in the past five years alone! He also has produced records, audio and video tapes, and CDs of his instruction and performance. He continues to write, teach, and perform in his own inimitable style.

Legend Sam Ulano does it again with another fantastic example of good ol' New York wisdom and inspiration. A straight forward no nonsense approach to every life question imaginable, and some even unimaginable. Pure genius!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for Mom and Grandmom, December 25, 2005
This review is from: Keep Swinging! Approach Your Senior Years Without Skipping a Beat (Paperback)
I got this book for my mother because she is now 63 and she was thumbing through it in the bookstore, laughing at parts, and saying "so true, so true." I bought it for her. She then ordered one for her sister and one for her mother, who in turn ordered if for friends. They say it is humorous, true, and makes them think about setting up their lives better. After my mother read this, she took up music again, which had been on the back burner for years.

Encouraging, but I've read better books. It's cheap enough though that I'm satisfied with it. I'll probably give it to our local library so someone else can enjoy it.
