This review is from: Swinging for the Fences (Perfect Paperback)
Alex puts forth a fantastic effort in "Swinging for the Fences." I'm a slow reader, but I started it last night and finished it tonight. It's compelling, heartfelt, thought-provoking, and sincere. I think everyone should read this book, but I would recommend it especially for high school and college age kids. Why? Because though he lays out a life strategy (using eleven principles) that a person of any age can apply, some of his key anecdotes will connect very well with those just getting a start on adolescence and/or adulthood. I am going to send copies to a few of my younger cousins, who though great kids, will find tremendous value in Alex's story and his words of wisdom.
There are many books out there that promote pithy sayings to help people succeed, but few of them can back it up with a story like Alex's. I took away a huge gift from this book that others in this genre cannot claim: overcoming is not enough - one must strive for excellence. Many of us think we have overcome a lot, and if we did, then good for us. However, how many of us took it to another level? Alex sure has, and his book will help you do the same if you are persistent, build strong relationships with the right people, and have a good attitude and an even better sense of humor. |
