As a general purpose trimmer, the ClassicCut Lite is appropriate for use in the office or home. Guillotine style blade has no problem cutting through thick materials or high capacity projects. This paper trimmer has a 12" cut length and chops 10 sheets at once in a thin, straight line. An alignment grid and dual scale ruler are printed on the trimmer base to help you line up each and every trim for perfect results. The ClassicCut Lite base is made of durable, plastic material that is lightweight and easy to transport. For what it's worth, unlike the Amazon picture, the board is dark gray with a greenish handle. It's nearly all-plastic (feels cheap but it looks okay from a distance) with the exception of the blade itself which appears to be thin steel and a the bolts that keep it together. The only assembly needed is attaching the handle (just push it) onto the blade assembly.

The trimmer features:

- inch and metric rulers
- a protective guard rail
- a blade latch hook
- a largely meaningless 10-year limited warranty (you pay for shipping, does not seem to cover the blade)

Putting it to the test, I found that it does cut photo paper well. The cut is straight and the blade cuts through the paper with no difficulty. Because of the guard rail, I doubt that you can squeeze more than a few sheets at a time but that's not a big issue for me because I will be cutting photos and I doubt that I will ever stack more than 2 or 3 sheets at the most.

Inside the box there's a note that says that Swingline is GBC's new name.

One (almost) good comment on the seller. Shipping was quick and the item came in perfect condition but the packaging wasn't exactly state of the art.

Six months update:

Still cuts well so that self-sharpening claim on the blade may hold some truth. On the other hand, I only cut a couple hundred sheets so I can say it's great for casual use and it COULD be good for heavier cutting activities.

I bought this paper cutter to help with making my wedding invitations. It worked perfectly and the blade is still sharp even after cutting over 100 sheets of cardstock and vellum! I can't wait to use it again for my scrapping and thank you cards. This cutter saved me so much time! I highly recommend this product for home use.

This Swingline ClassiCut guillotine paper trimmer is exaclty what I wanted and needed in my kindergarten classroom. After reading many reviews I settled on this model and haven't looked back. It is small but mighty. It efficiently trims a single page with a nice, sharp edge. It just as efficiently cuts up to nine pages with no crushed or mushed edges. Sharp! Neat! It's lightweight, so at times it requires some manipulating to make sure it doesn't move around too much. However, that is a small price to pay for a trimmer that makes the cutting job a breeze with ease. It has two guidelines to measure the paper so you get exactly what you want in size (one at the top and one in the middle of the trimmer). There is a guidebar that doesn't obscure the area being trimmed so you can see what you are doing. Go for it!

"GBC 9312 Classiccut cl100 series economy 10-sheet paper trimmer, 15 cut, 13x19-1/2" does NOT have a "15 cut" surface as indicated in the title. That is WRONG! Model 9312 actually has a 12" x 12" cutting surface. (19-1/2 includes the full length of the handle.)
The dimension in the title is correct. However, "Product Details" states "Product Dimensions: 18.5 x 15 x 3.5 inches", which is WRONG!

I thought I was purchasing a 15" cutting surface--based on the title of the product. But, when I received the trimmer, it was only "12 cut"; packing slip matched the title-- WRONG cut size; correct dimensions. {Confusing, huh?} The base is dark gray, as described, not white like the illustration; handle is olive green.

There is, however, a "GBC 9315 Classiccut cl100 series economy 10-sheet paper trimmer, 12 cut, 15x22-1/2 base"; stated "Product Dimensions: 21.5 x 15 x 3 inches". I assume this one has a 15" cutting surface; even though the title states "12 Cut". {Color of illustrated Model 9315 is actual color of Model 9312.)

If you can figure out how to order the size you really want (& actually receive it), you'll generally be pleased. It's very light weight --so hold it down steadily when cutting; blade is very sharp. I hope the self-sharpening blade feature really works since the warranty does not include the blade.

Any parent with kids in school has stayed up way past their bedtime working on projects the little darling "forgot" to tell you about until the night before it was due. I've had blisters on my fingers from cutting and cutting by hand, so I decided to buy one of these paper cutters for the next time. I bought mine at Walmart, for about $26.

I was a little put off by the all-plastic base and unit's overall light weight, but with 100 little squares to cut out for the latest school project I was willing to give it a try. I'm very happy with the way it works, although it takes a little practice to cut exactly where you want it to. The blade is SUPER sharp (my bleeding knuckle assures you) and the cutter should only be used by adults. It cuts up to 10 regular pages (about 5 pages of construction paper) with ease. In fact, it works better with 2 or more pages than with one.

One hint I learned is that you need to hold the paper very securely with your left hand, so it can't be pulled crooked as you lower the blade with your right hand. Also, as you lower the cutting bar to cut, use a slight inward pressure on the handle, to keep the blade slicing right up against the guide.

This is a great little paper cutter and I'm "looking forward" to all those late nights when we'll be chopping and pasting.
